  • More on Album Art (bug/feature request)

This is not too serious (program still usable) but it may make Freeway quicker. Whenever Freeway attempts to find album art (Ex: clicking "Browse by album" then selecting an album) I have noticed the following behavior:

+If Freeway already has the album art downloaded, everything goes great.

+If Freeway does not have the album art and no internet connection is present, the program freezes for up to 30 seconds while it looks, then continues along just fine after that. It will do this for every album you attempt to play, making it a pain in-car.

+If Freeway does not have the album art and there is an internet connection, the program freezes for around 10 seconds to download it, then continues along fine after that.

    ----------------------
My ideas, take what you will:
Since Freeway runs best when the album art is already found, move the album art searching to be part of the library generation (where speed is not as important).

Also, many people have their music separated by album and have art named "Folder.jpg" in each album folder. This could be an option for where to look when it is searching (ArtLocation=web/folder/both) with the 'both' option looking in the folder first, then on the web if unsuccessful. The search would still be part of library generation (or as separate functions: 'generate library', 'generate album art')

Hey Oeri, hope you don't mind all the bugs I've posted, I had a lot of chances to test with all the driving I've done over the holidays. Overall Freeway is great so keep up the good work!

Oh, and one more thing :P

I don't know if it is true, but it appears that the labels in Freeway (song title, etc..) are updated before mplayer is updated. Sending the command to mplayer first (or at least sooner) may make the overall transition seem quicker. Again, this is just how it looks to me, so if it can't be changed, nevermind.

There are already checks for Internet connection implemented, and it works fine in my setup. Or does your Internet connection in your car time out frequently?

This was a feature in the old VB version. I will add it to this one.

Also, many people have their music separated by album and have art named "Folder.jpg" in each album folder. This is already implemented.
