  • FrodoSkinner Alpha v.01

Well after making my own skin last night, I soon found the pain of trying to figure out the percentages of the buttons. So today I coded up a really quick app that will do the calculations for you.

All you do is design your skin, export as a 640x480 bitmap. Load in the bitmap in the program and draw boxs around your buttons. The info is automatically exported to skin.txt in the same directory. Remember the order of the buttons you do as it just makes a list of coordinates.

Remember, this is very basic and did very quickly. I plan on making it a lot better soon, but it does make the process so much more easier.

Please post any problems and errors here or questions.

    Thanks.

That is really interesting Jaw! Thanks a lot.

question: why does it takes BMP and not JPG? the backgrounds are in JPG in the real skin...

still this is a great app for skinners in the frodoplayer

it might simply be my vid card driver, but the whole image flashed big time when I draw the square of a button.

the output result is really usefull and I will most likely use that in my future skinning (particularly when I reach the keyboard part of the LCARS skin - lot of fun I now will avoid )

    Thanks.

Cool. I was waiting for something like this to come out. I hope to see this develop into a full featured skinning app

Cool, thanks for trying it out.

First off the reason it only takes bitmap right now is cause windows provides a really easy way to load in bitmaps with no extra work. Made this REALLY fast, more of a working concept to see if works.

As with the flickering, nope not your video card, hehe also because of the ****tyness of my quick code. Windows Graphic Device Interface is extremely slow at updating and I used no optimizations to fix this. Next version will be a complete rewrite to rid of these things.

But yea, just got done using it to map out my skin in 5 mins! Whereas last night took me forever to just guess and check, guess and check and got nowhere this close heh. Its not like completely do it for you yet, but hoping to have it label your buttons and stuff too so you dont need to copy and paste in.

Thanks, Ill probably have some questions on the specifics of the ini format as soon as I get to the more complex values such as for the Directory list.
BTW: awesome app does everything I exactly want!

So you have to make the boxes in what order? skip, pause, play something like that?

For your next version, I would suggest using GDI+. It has support for a whole bunch of file types, including jpg, and is far far easier to use then regular GDI.

masher: it does only gives you the coordinates for you to edit in a read skin file so you do not have to take 2-3 hours of your time calculating and testing percent values of your skin...

You can do the same thing in photoshop by changing the value to percent instead of pixle

yep, but photoshop will never generate the whole file, while this application will end up being made especially for the frodoplayer skin files.
