  • FP wont play video on both screens

I finally got both screens to play video in WMP by changing some settings for the video card. It works in WMP but I still can't get it to work in FP. Has anyone had a similar problem and maybe a solution?

what video card are you using?

I know you can do this with nvidia based cards and possibly ATI. with nvidia cards it uses video overlay to detect when your playing a video and then display it on multiple screens.

Ati is the same way. It also uses overlays. I have the ati 7000. To get it working, I only enabled one monitor in windows. Double click the monnitor that you enabled and that should bring up the ATI properties. Click on "Displays" and turn on your secondary monitor by clicking the little power icon. Set one as primary and one as clone. Doesnt matter which. Then click on the "overlay" tab and select theatre settings or something like that. Then click "same on both" That works for WMP but now im not getting video in FP on either monitor.

did it work? I can clone the m10k but the overlay/clone for m12k is not in the options...maybe i can find the driver that will work. Anyone done the clone on m12k video and vga?

great thanks I tried a lot of things, including outside programs such as Unltra mon, and I got to clone everything except DVD. and I played around with settings for the card, and dvd playback...but it still obeys the overlay setting (either crt or composite...not both ) hopeful you got dvd working

Thats how matrox g400 based cards do it, esp the marvel with the tuner etc.

Matrox(marvel) are _flawless_ at this trick.

With most nvidia chipsets they will pop up the video fullscreen on monitor2(tv out) but if you then start clicking things and opening shutting windows on monitor1(vga) then the 2nd output loses fullscreen or stops.

Just try to fullscreen/minimise/shrink/resize WMP on screen1 and see what happpens on screen2

None of that with a matrox.

strohj, I have a VIA SP 13000, does this means that I can have dual screen support i.e dvd running in monitor 2 (using RCA out) and gps running in monitor 1 (VGA out) ? Except that we can't use FP in monitor 1 to run dvd in monitor 2 ?

Possible to tell me the way you set the settings in display properties? I tried playing around with the settings and ended having a desktop with no mouse pointer and icons. Damn it! I got to reinstall win xp again. Please help

To get dual screen working the way you describe.. you need to 'extend your desktop' to the 2nd screen.... you will then have to modify your skin to stretch over both screens...

strohj, let's see if i get it right. To get the dual screen the way I describe requires the extension of the desktop to the 2nd screen - can be done from display settings. When selecting dual monitor, does XP automaticaly knows that the 2nd screen is thr the TV out (RCA)?

Stretching over both screens - how does FP nows where to display the dvd skin over the stretch skin on the 2nd screen?

XP will use what it can as the 2nd screen.. in your case it will use the TV out...

you will have to modify your skins to now not only be 800x600.. but they will have to be 1600x600 (twice as wide) the right hand part of your skin.. you will need to put what you want on the 2nd screen... keep in mind that in frodo's DVD player not all but buttons etc are available to control anything else .. BUT you can get a external app to run for GPS
