  • Concerning FrodoDVD

Hello frodo, I'm sorry I have to disturb you and ask for some help.. I have ed and d all over the forum, but can't find a definitive answer to my problem. The situation is the following. I have a DVD slim drive connected to the carputer through an external enclosure with a firwire connection. I installed winDVD (trial version) and it is able to play DVD without a problem. However in WMP it tells me "WMP cannot play the DVD because a problem occurred w/ digital copyright protection" ( I am playing and original store bought DVD, so there are no copyright infringements issues here...not sure why it tells me this, but I am not able to play DVD with Windows media Player). Finally I try to use Frodo DVD, (I much prefer to use your app because of its simplicity, its skinability, and its emmbedding easiness) however when I open the FrodoDVD, I press play and nothing happens, I press menu and nothing happens, basically the screen just stays black. I searched and you mentioned in other threads to go to system32 and search for mswebdvd.dll. I do have the file there then I go to cmd.exe and type "regsvr32 mswebdvd.dll" it then tells me it registered succesfully, but even then Frodo still doesn't do anything. I even restarted the computer just in case, but to no avail. I looked into the error log andd it says something about " this operation is not permitted in the current domain- (and the something like frmDVD-form-unload-0-mswebdvd.mswebdvd.1"
not sure what that error code means, but I'm hopin you can provide some help.

    Thanks,

I don't know if it's an issue with the trial or not, but try finding these files since
you are using WinDVD. Look for ivvideo.ax & ivaudio.ax.

Do the regsvr32 thing on those two files as well.
Also, make sure (even though it shouldn't matter) make sure your settings for
FrodoDVD are set to the proper drive.

I have never used the trial version, there may be some issue there.

Hmm thanks for helping me out frodo, but I STILL have problem. I tried registering those .ax files like you suggested,, and that didn't help. so I ended up registering winDVD so its no longer a trial version and even still it doesn't work. I can play dvd's with no problem in WinDVD, but not in Windows media player, or FrodoDVD. I am all out of ideas. I noticed on other computers in my house that frodo DVD would not begin to workk untill I finally got DVDs playing with WMP, once DVD's played in WMP, it would work in frodo dvd, before it wouldn't., I know you mentioned that Frodo is independent from WMP, but for some reason, like i said in other computers it only started working once I got dvd's working in WMP. One VERy strange thing did happem, the only time I actually got to see some images with frodo dvd (in my car) was when I installed a PowerDVD trial version. I opened up Power DVD and started playing the DVD, while PowerDVD was playing I opened up FrodoDVD, and it seamed to "steal" the image from PowerDVD and play it in the FrodoDVD window. i then quit powerdvd, and tried to play the dvd again with frodo, and it wouldn't play anymore. like I said very strange. In any case the error log I get with Frodo is someting like "the action is not permtted in this domain" Whenever I press a button on frodo I can see the "activity" light of the external dvd case flicker, so I know its recieviing the click commads and sending them to the appropiate dvd drive, however I can't get it to play. so sorry to make this a long post, but i'm hoping you might have a couple tricks under your sleave to help me out.
      thanks

You need a different decoder. Try intervideo video decoder. Download deccheck from http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en
Run the prog and set intervideo as your prefered decoder and that should work for you. I'm not sure why but which ever decoder you use for Frodo, needs to be compatible with WMP. If it doesnt work in WMP it wont work in Frodo.

Thanks for the suggestion. I thought that would be the solution but..... still not working I set the intervideo as the default decoder, and WMP still gives me a copright protetion error, and frododvd doesn't play. one question does WMP have to be connected to the internet to play dvds? is that how it checks the copyright protection???
          thanks

          p.s. any other suggestions?

I had something similar with my install. I tried all of the noted fixes but still had the problem.

In the end I downloaded all of the latest drivers for the graphics card (well, that part of m MII) and the DVD plays fine now.

                      AnyDVD

You could also try installing the trial of AnyDVD. Sometimes that helps with "Copy Protection".

FINALLY! i got it to work, for those interested in how i fixed it, I installed the trial version of DVD region free (works like AnyDVD) and that seemed to do the trick, no I can play in frodoDVD and WMP. Its very strange though, cuz my DVDrom is set for region 1, and the DVD's i'm trying to play are region 1, but for some reason WMP and frodoDVD refuse to play them, only WinDVD plays them, but now with this DVD region free program, I am able to play them on any software. hmmm I'm thinking I might reflash my DVD rom with a region free firmware, maybe this way I can eliminate having to run thei DVD region free software in the back ground, but you know wha tthey say, "If it aint broke......." so does anyone know if reflashing the firmware with a region free one will help?

Yeah, I ran into this error on my media center box when trying to play DVD's at 1080i. I'm assuming the MPAA doesn't want us upconverting our DVD's to 1080i on a PC. AnyDVD fixed the problem for me. It's probably a resolution issue. Are you running a weird resolution?

No, no wierd resolution. This is for my carputer, using the onboard video of the Epia M10K, runnig at 800 x 600, who knows what it can be... Those RCE protections can be quite tricky on computers from what i've been reading in the internet... just glad its finally working....
