  • LinuxICE feature requests

First and foremost...great job on the LinuxICE project so far. At this rate it will be one of the top frontends...Excuse me...The top CarPC OS out there by this time next year.

I do however have a few ideas on what LinuxICE3 should have:
1)More support for VIA based systems!!!!!!!!!!!
2)The ability to change the background image to suit individual preferences
3)An optional bootsplash screen that can be chosen to install in the advanced
option tab of step 7 of the install process
4)The ability to enable transparency for the buttons(so you can see your chosen
background image...that would be sooo sweet)
5)The ability to change your screen resolution for selected windows like Carbon
    and Navit
Just a few ideas to think about on the next release...Keep up the good work Kev000 and crew!!!!!!!

Instead of highjacking the silverwolf thread, I moved this to a new thread.

Via support would be nice. It'd also be nice if VIA supported Linux better. I think it'll happen in time. LinuxICE3 will use more and more OpenGL graphics and I don't think VIA's drivers are up to snuff. We'll see what happens with the openChrome project which is the best open source driver.

2-4 are already possible. Take this thread for an example of a slightly customized background. nGhost2 is completely skinable and supports transparencies. As for boot splash. I've created 2 example ones that are turned off by default. usplash-theme-linuxice, and usplash-theme-chevy. You can install them from LinuxICE in a few clicks using Apps->PackageManger->Synaptic and searching for the above packages. You can easily make your own splash screen as well and I hope to see more. Maybe I'll do a video on that and see if people will take advantage of this feature.

      Kev000,

How different will the theme engine be for nghost3 vs nghost2.5.... Hopefully, it's not to earlier to ask about 3.

Very different. Right now ng3 uses xml themes vs full skins. *However*, all of ng3's UI is on hold right now. Everything is likely to change and skinning will be included. The new changes will help us write stuff faster and better so stay tuned.
