  • Problem with navigation under Media Engine.

    Hi

The program is overall great, i am using it for more than a month but I have a problem with navigation program. I have tried this with two navigation programs and it is the same, also checked different screen size..no help.
So the problem is that when the navigation is open there are no play/stop/rewind and more buttons from the media browser, the navigation is always fullscreen and the biggest problem is that when I click in navigation programs Minimize or Close the LOADING Media engine screen appears and nothing is happening until i restart the application...any ideas?

There is a bit of a problem with some satnav software that is supposed to be fixed in the next release. I use MapMonkey which works fine.

What satnav program are you using? Freedrive is known to have problems.

This is a guess, but I'd say they are experiencing the same problem as Freedrive and may be fixed by the same solution which is due in the next release. Mapmonkey is the only mapping software I've found to currently work with MediaEngine (although I haven't tried iGuidance).

Ok, I'm working on 2.3.6 today. If my phone doesn't ring in the next couple hours I might have it ready to release this evening. Hopefully whatever changes CarComp made here will solve the issues I've had with RoadNav as well.

Edit: Update - scratch that. :-| CarComp hasn't uploaded his changes to the repository so I'm waiting on him. :-| Sorry folks.

I was halfway through jumping out of my chair in joyful glee when I read the 'edit' part. Bummer.

Do you guys have a cvs or svn repository somwhere?

Well you can restore yourself to glee (though I doubt it warrants such fanfare) because CarComp sent me the changes last night. I'd like to smack him for not uploading them two months ago when I asked him about it, but that would be wasting perfectly good energy.

No, no real source control system.

                    So yeah. We're still waiting.

And for me it does warrant such fanfare. I hate using mapmonkey for GPS because it causes errors everytime my pc hibernates and crashes now and then. I'd really like to use Freedrive which the fix that Carcomp sent you 'should' fix.

If it doesn't, I'm going to harrass you for source code, rip out my old copy of VB6 and go to town on it myself.

i have installed the new media engine but (((( it is the same problem again, the "loading" screen appears when minimazing or closing PC Nawigator or Automapa GPS application ( only pushing esc button helps.

Are you using these navigation apps from 'External Apps', or have you tried configuring them as the default, embedded GPS application (GPS tab in settings)?

Just to clarify for everyone, the only change made to GPS in this release was the ability to specify command-line arguments. If your application doesn't support command line arguments, this latest build won't do anything for you. Furthermore, if you're trying to run a GPS app that doesn't allow you to configure it to run inside a regular window that can be resized / moved on the desktop (i.e. uses DirectX fullscreen accelleration), there's nothing that can be done to make these apps work embedded within MediaEngine.

FYI. I played around with all this last nite trying out Freedrive. Basically MediaEngine gets itself caught in a loop whenever it executes Freedrive and chews up 100% CPU, whether it was executed as the default GPS app or as an external app. In task manager I can set the process priority of ME to 'Low' and Freedrive will start up, but when it exits ME still doesn't bust out of it's loop and stays dead.

I'm assuming this is because Freedrive is not responding well to being asked to move/resize and MediaEngine isn't handling it's lack of cooporation very gracefully.

More likely what's happening is the routine that determines the app's window handle isn't finding anything and gets stuck in that loop (hmm, sounds like we need a timeout mechanism there...). That, or it's finding the window handle of a splash screen that is subsequently getting hidden or closed. It's hard to tell without testing each individual GPS app and adjusting things to suit it's particular idiosyncrasies. The fact that the external app detection routine is also not working for this particular program is troubling, because that code is slightly different and IMO somewhat more robust.
