  • Odd bug - different song selected

    Hi guys,

I posted a bug on mediaengine.org a couple days ago about a bug I found, then afterwards noticed that someone else had found the same thing. Of interest, the other person's bug was marked 'Can not reproduce'.

The issue is this, the song that is playing is never the one that's highlighted. It always highlights the next one and shows info for the wrong song while the correct song is above it.

This is also true when it is in Shuffle mode.

I post here because I was wondering if anyone else has seen this?

I ran into that problem.... this happened only after i added more mp3's to the computer.. Try rebuilding the database then reboot then rebuild again.. that should fix it

Roger that, I'll try it. I guess 'rebuild the database' is the same as the 'uninstall/reinstall' advice I used to give in tech support. Silly sounding but infuriatingly effective. *

      * I say infuriating because it doesn't seem like it should work, but it often does, and more so because you don't know what broke in the first place.

I tried it, no luck. I have 1200 MP3s in that directory, and the original bug mentioned that he had a lot too (over 700), maybe that's contributing?

I copied the tags.mdb database to my keychain and brought it to my office and checked it out in Access. It looks like each ID3 title entry matches the correct file for each row, so the problem isn't in the database itself, it must be in the display code.

For those of you who do not have this problem, what's the max # of songs you have in a directory?

I have this problem when I modified the location/# of files that was in the directory.

I have over 8 GB of songs so I don't even know how many files is that. When I had 7 GB and not chaning anything at all...everything was fine. But as soon as I tried changing something to the directory, BAM!!! songs are all screw up with display. Even deleting and rebuilding the DB list wasn't good enough for it. I had to uninstall the software, delete the directory, delete all my playlists, then reinstall mediaengine, then build the list and it seems to work fine afterward.

It's really annoying as I tend to add more songs every week, about 700mb of songs weekly and I have to do this everytime because of it.

I had the same problem as well on a directory with a lot of misc. files in it some MP3, wma, ogg. I went into ME and reverted back to the default settings and redid everything and it worked without a problem. I wonder if the problem could be with some of the ID3 tags. Some of the tags for some of the songs were screwed up.

I sort mine by: Genre --> Alphabet letter --> Artist --> Album

Makes it easier to navigate since I have a large collection (about 120gig worth)

is it possible that the DB can only hold so much info for a certain folder then it corrupts? imean, either way it sounds like a software issue adn nothign you guys haev done. specially if you re-install and it is fixed.

have you guys tryed manually renaming/deleteing the DB and then do a "rebuild"?

In case this helps anyone, I had the same problem and rebuilding the database wouldn't seem to help...turned out that I just had to go back to the browse media screen and then re-select "Browse all media", basically rebuilding the playlist...I think the playlist references a unique ID in the database and therefore accesses the wrong song if the db is rebuilt but not the playlist...

                      Anyway, hope this helps.

That may match what worked for me too.

I had this problem before, defragged, and checkdisked my drive, and everything was solved after I rebuilt my database. Now, I went and downloaded the new codecs so I could play movies, and its screwed up again. I tried rebooting, and rebuilding, but no luck. I found that the top half of the songs line up without problem. Then about 3/4 way down, I have some .wav files, apparently attached to something in my movie folder that is now screwing up the count. Anything after these maybe 10 files is playing as if they weren't there. Example: Click on the song immediately after these files, and the song 10 songs down the list plays.

It would be easy to either delete these files, are move them or something, which I haven't tried yet. This wouldn't solve the issues with the software though. I know a new version is rumored to be on the way, but does anyone have a reliable fix for this?
