Media Engine Not starting up

  • Media Engine Not starting up

    I double click the desktop icon, opens program, asks for media folder info, asks for playlist file info, dialog box says will now update, OK? I click it and it closes media engine...

    anything i should download as a patch? i am running Win XP btw...

    this is going to sound daft, but is your firewall running ? or antivirus ?

        switch it off and anyother firewall / antivirus you have running (you may want to disconnect network cables while trying this) and see if this makes a difference, I had mcafee installed and running on my desktop, and many apps did exactly what you describe, start loading, look like its going to work and then boom nothing, once mcafee was removed everything worked like a charm, apparently it has to do with "safe applications" espescially if you have tied your pc down tightly and preventing any nasties getting in. Try it and see, otherwise reinstall time (or even check your sound card drivers, perhaps winamp is using the hardware when another app tries toload and causes a crash ? maybe there is an error log generated in the apps directory, check it out as well
