  • Removable Hd Problem

I've got an external USB 2.5" HD and everytime windowsXP starts it doesn't recognize it so I have to unplug it from the USB port and plug it again. Is there a reason why this is happening? What can I do to make windows recognize it when it starts?

    Thanks

sounds like your removeable hd has a conflicting drive letter with another drive. try right clicking on My Computer and then click on Manage. in the left column click on Disk Management. on the right side, right click on your removeable hd and click on "Change drive letter and paths". Click "Change", and make it a letter that is different from the other drives (a few letters down the alphabet would be better like maybe M:\ for media).

    hope this helps.

I have the same problem. It happens on every computer. I have came to the conclusion that at startup it doesnt get initalized by windows at windows' startup, so when u plug it in thats when it gets intialized. My motherboard only supports usb 1.0 so its rather slow reading movies... i find myself just using it for new music i download.
