  • any other skinners out there?

been looking into building a carputer and i was surprised to see that lack of skins out there.

so i'd figure i'd toss a couple in there over the next couple of weeks....

i have my computer parts on order and when they get in i'm installing ME and testing the skins.... until then i can upload some teasers

still have to create the buttons for this one.... this one will prolly end up in my car when it is done

Martok: nice. I think I am just as far along as you are in the mod process. Also, I saw your link to [FJ], but do you visit the forums?

St. Charles is changing really fast. It's all built up, Hwy 94 is being converted into an interstate (a new bridge has been built over the Missouri, extension of Page Ave).

                ya....

i moved away from the wentzville/o'fallon area around the year 2001

you've prolly seen my friend's car out there in the st. charles area. he attends sccc and drives a yellow focus with 17s and a new body kit

BTW: i was curious as in how to hook up my lcd panel i was going to order... do you have one installed as of yet? i was prolly going to do the xenarc 7'' touchscreen and relocate an aftermarket deck to the glovebox and the comp in the trunk.

i was trying to figure out the best way to get power to the lcd... and what better person to ask than a fellow focus owner....

I think I've seen him before.

As far as the LCD goes, I haven't had the chance to fit one into my budget (the 7" Xenarc equivalent is what I'd get though). The screen is slightly larger than the opening that we have for our radio, so I would suggest purchasing a second one on ebay and slowly wittle away at the top and "drivers side" of the hole. You can do the other sides, but there isn't as much room available as the top and drivers side.

As far as getting power to it, that is easy depending upon the power source. It is very easy to hide the wiring behind the center console and up underneath the dash/carpet.

For my system, I am going to be doing the following (eventually):
                  1) Relocate radio to glove compartment.
                  2) Wire the faceplate up above the map lights (on the surface of the dropdown part of the headliner).
                  3) Put the carputer either in the trunk behind my amp, or under the passengers seat.
                  4) Convert a PDA "finger keyboard" so that it can work as a standard keyboard, use that for data entry.
                  5) WiFi
