  • New to MediaEngine, what do I need to Start?

So I'm knew to this whole thing, and I think this is awesome, so I'd like to get started on my own project. What will I need? I've already got the software, but what about hardware? Will I be building a small computer from scratch? Any specs? Size of hard drive, amount of RAM, video card? Thanks, everyone!

you're in the subforum for mp3car.com I'd take a look around not just the media engine forum but the whole forum. There is a newbie forum on this site that this should be asked in. the general question is use whatever you want. A mp3car computer can be a p2 or a p4. All depends on what you want to do

The overall system specs are completely up to you, some of us are using 366 MHz laptops which run fine up to full scale Pentium 4 systems.

The Via Epia M-10000 is a popular motherboard+processor combo for in-car use do to it's small physical footprint, low power consumption and intergrated perheprials. If you go that route VGA video, audio, 2 serial ports and a parallel port are all features of that board. USB 2.0 and Firewire controllers are built onboard too.

I am personally using that board with 256 Meg RAM and am quiet happy with it overall.

The is my first time saying it.. but do a search on this board as this topic has been discussed greatly. There is alot of great info on this message board. If you have any specific questions don't be afraid to ask.
