  • Thank you!

For the kind words on AutoTouch I'm pleased you're all enjoying it. Rest assured that I'm not leaving it to rot right now, I've been working on the video module and have seemed to have hit a bug that I'm having a bit of trouble working around, but it's in the works. I also have a plan for how to make it completely modular so that you folks could write add-ins that would work with say IGuidance or one of the other nav packages if you wanted. So that will be coming.

The other item I'm working with is possibly using a different GPS Parser which might end up being slightly more accurate!

The biggest obstacle is my day job which often has me so busy I have limited time to work on this stuff!

    It's coming though!

Great job on AutoTouch, the integration with MS Streets made the whole carputer project worthwhile, for me.
Just a couple of questions for you, any way to make it go full screen, easily? and in your next version will you be adding anymore functinality to your mp3 player, as in listing more then one track at a time or posibly using a winamp base rather then WMP?
    Thanks again.

are you askin for AutoTouch to be fullscreen? or the GPS map?

Runnin at 800x600 AutoTouch is full screen

I've always been curious why Gremlin chose WMP over winamp (more efficient? or easier?) He'd have to answer that..

Sorry, I should'a specified, my full screen is 1024X768. I currently drop my resolution to 800X600 to get full screen but then the maps look kinda ****y.

Autotouch UI seems to be messed up on my 1900 x 1200 resolution screen. The direction right to the map cuts off.

              AutoTouch

Originally AutoTouch was designed just for 800x600, theoretically you could scale it up by using different skins but I'd have to enable that, it's actually fairly trivial to do so I'll add it to my list of things to look into, and see what I can do. You'd have to redo the whole skin for the new resolution however

Next on the hold down of the volume key (suggested in another thread) that'd be interesting, I never thought of it because I have AutoTouch playing through the Aux in on a Head Unit and I use the head unit's volume controls, not the one in autotouch, of course it'd be annoying. Even better might be a way to do some sort of slider.

As for the next album you mean you'd want the next album on the playlist to play when you hit the CD bump? So if you'd selected multiple albums you'd go to the next one? Again I never really thought of this because it's not the way I use it. What I do is select a bunch of stuff, put it on shuffle and go, but that's because as I've said Mine's in my motorhome so I usually am driving for a while when I'm using it.

As for why I chose WMP instead of WINAMP because it was easier to integrate with .NET I found some great examples, and I was hoping to take advantage of a couple of features that were in WMP. Plus it's on every windows based system free of charge. Also does WINAMP play WMA files now? Most of my stuff is ripped in WMA because it sounds better.

As for Why MapPoint, I had it, I figured out how to do what I wanted with the object model, I didn't already own IGuidance or anything else, and most of the ones that existed didn't seem as friendly to work with. As for the street names and fonts MapPoint supplies that unfortunately so I can't do much about it AFIK.

On the 1900x1200 res screen, you have a 23" monitor in your car? Get out of town

I see that you are using a 3rd party control for gps. Why not use the in-built mappoint gps capabilities?

No I got 15" wide screen

Because the object model does not allow access to them. And actually this third party app is the prime reason I can't make the AutoTouch system OpenSource it's only liscened for me. I might be able to go open source if I modularise it and make the nav section closed source. I have been thinking about how that would work and what it would take.

I actually think it's done. You'll need to remake the skin because the button placement would need to be scaled. What I did was make it so that the form will become whatever size the background image is for it. So you'd simply create a background image for each form the size you'd want it to be and voila it'll work.

I'll upload version .63 when I get home. I'm also looking at how to make button presses obvious (i.e. allow you to paint an image of a down button over them) if you want it.

                              Okay, it's up!

                              http://www.sarinarts.com/autotouch.htm

For the latest version, please post links to any skins if you create them, it might be a good idea to start putting information about the size in the skin name so that it's obvious. I may have to increase the size of the skin name drop down to accomodate that. Let me know. I'm working on showing button presses now, and I'm thinking about how plug-ins and video can work!
