  • Joining US maps?

Has someone found a way to join the US maps? I am about to make a big road trip and only having one region loaded is pretty worthless.

naamanf, it's all about Destinator, Major Roads US. Can be purchased for ~$50. Why this isn't built in? Beats me.

      Trying to find it myself.

So the major roads, which I assume means highways and such only, has one big US region? But the detailed street maps have 7-8 regions?

(I'm new. Trying to understand this correctly)

Out of curiosity, how much disk space do all the US maps, all the regions, take up?

Cool. Why do all the common GPS systems now come on DVD then I wonder?

Back to the topic at hand....

With 7-8 difference US maps, is a big pain in the butt when you cross into another region to switch the map? Can you just go to the menu and select the new region you're going into?

And can you plan a trip across the different regions as they stand now?

I've never used major roads myself, so I can't comment on how easy/hard it is to use. As for why commercial gps systems and dvd's, I think it's a lot do do with POI's and whatnot. And 1 CD is pushing it. PLUS, on the CD it's often compressed and not useable. You need to uncompress it by installing it or whatever to use it. Since this isn't an option for the commercial gps system, they just use a bigger disk (a dvd).

dont get me wrong.. I would also love to have just 1 map for the whole us.. i was just trying to say that space is not the issue.. since you get all the detail maps for the us on 1 cd.. (they are zipped though)

You have to remember the maps are made for PocketPC's and not desktops, so it's unlikely you'll find a detailed map of the entire US

Yea but there has to be a way of combining them. Question to people who have this setup and running... Is it practical and useable to have to switch maps?

I just traveled from Kansas to Colorado and back and it was a major pain messing with switching maps and then trying to get the route working again while on the go without pulling over ended up just turning on delorme and running it the rest of the trip
