  • Problems with MM Advanced Mode/SiRF

    Hi NM & Others,

I have recently changed from NMEA advanced mode, to SiRF advanced mode in MM. I did this because GPS works better for me in SiRF in terms of losing signal, etc...

However this is what I notice:

    - Sometimes (1 out of 2 times maybe?) when I return from hibernate (doesnt matter if MM was running or not when I went into hibernate), mapmonkey doesnt get a fix. GPS status says "GPS Not Found", GPS Settings are same as when it is working.
    - If I quit MM, and restart it it will update my position on the map but only once on startup, it still acts as if there is no GPS found... (Everytime I restart MM it only updates my position once at the very startup)
    - If I bernate the come back and start MM fresh it works again normally...
    - Hibernating with MM running and coming back isnt reconnecting the GPS... manual exit and re-run of MM brings stuff back to normal...

I really would like to understand what goes on... my GPS com port isnt changing ever...

It works, like I said, half of the time...

All the settings need to be put the in the Advanced GPS tab, not on the gps settings window... also I had to put com/baud manually...

but still it only shows speed, etc, halfof the time (when it works EVERYHTING works, when it doesnt, nothing works)

hmm, i had different experience with it, if i set both the port and baud manually, nothing happens, i got it to work once or twice setting the port manually and baud autodetect. now i cant make it to work anymore.

It seems that the issue isnt really hibernation, it is quitting MM, and reloading until the damn thing decides to work!

its really frustrating as I cant pinpoint exactly what I am doing wrong.... I also noticed once that my speed was showing up, but no map updates... I even got a speed camera warning but no map update.... I had to exit / re-launch to get it to work properly......

i get problems with mm with regards to updating also. well first of all i noticed that when my systems starts up, autoloads RR, then i click on gps which then launches mm, every now and then, im on the road already i still dont get update, if i close it once or twice while on the road, then it picks it up. not sure why this is so.

i have all kinds of problems too. MM is always saying 'gps not found', when its already tracking me. I tried sirf but it crashed. I very often get the classic mm error message box, click ok and everything's still fine.

if in frodo, you click gps, then click hide before mm is fully loaded, it all crashes. that sucks because who wants to wait the 5 seconds it takes for it to boot

(rant) when entering in an address, if you type in the city, and (naturally) hit 'enter', it pops up the mode options box instead of what it should do, accept the city and move to street. Everyone else tries it in my car naturally hits the 'enter' button after typing something in and gets lost. (umm what now?)
              (end rant)
