  • Wainting on SDK

Well, I have a new Destinator 3 package sitting here and I have also purchased the SDK and received 3.0.75_97_COM_API.zip, I have also requested DestDLL_08_05.zip as I am told to do on these forums, but two days later and no sign of this file.

How long does it normally take to turn up?

I am really keen to get this running, as you all no doubt understand!

I just got mine today, since Friday when I placed the order.

And I got this bit of "news" as well:

Attached you will find the file. It is used by developers to enable them to use full sized maps during development. It allows them to test applications in their local area. It does expire in August.
Apparently you can only use full sized maps for development with the $50 SDK, and even then the DLL will expire eventually. No word on whether or not there will be an extension or if this is the way it's supposed to be.

Not knocking them because it's their business model, but they make it really hard for people to stay legit with this thing if that's the way they're doing business.

companies that make it too difficult to be legit just get it up their arses....

I'm not advocating for piracy, but if there is no way of legit. using their stuff, what are most people going to do? stop using MM and FD? or use a copy of destdll from the web hacked up? They should wisen up!

Any ideas for putting a PC in this? :)

Well I was reluctant at first to go the legit route, because after all $50 is a lot of money just for that DLL -- which is the only part that I truly need. They can stuff the rest of the software, the maps and the SDK in general -- as long as MM works, that's all I need.

But I figured it's worth it since MM is donation-ware, and I purchased the maps online as well and figured I was done. Now I update from the beta and first I'm without MM for 3 days while they work on their "analog" system of purchasing -- first time I had to wait 3 days for a download...

Then I find out the DLL expires in August (hence the name 08-05).

I mean, I want to do this the right way as much as the next guy, but what happens in a couple of months when the August DLL expires? I still haven't heard from them about a replacement or extension... the demo DLL is crippled and doesn't support the bigger maps even if you obtained them legally, so...

In the end it looks like it would have been better off to incorporate the DLL into MM and sell the product... I understand that some people would have just grabbed it without paying, but for the price that of us are paying combined for the SDK, that could have been serious cheese going into NinjaMonkey's pocket to support the development effort.

        Just my 2 cents.

NM can't incorporate the dll and sell it because there isn't one! (Apart from the 08_05 dll)

            aggghhh

This is all beginning to leave a very nasty taste in my mouth, right now I have shelled out 70 UK pounds and 50 US dollars, and I don't know if I am going to have anything more than a shiny coaster to put drinks on.

This is absolutely not a dig at map monkey.

So if anyone can see a way through this mess, HELP!

Seriously though you should voice your concerns to Powerloc/Destinator or whatever they call themselves these days, as should anyone who wants to play it legal but is finding it difficult.

I changed the clock to 2006 on my computer using the DLL that was suppose to expire in August. Map Monkey ran just fine, so I'm not sure if the DLL actually does expire or if it was suppose to and was never implemented.

I did look at the online documentation. There is no license agreement or anything, so as far as the use is concerned, it's sketchy at best. My solution if we deploy Destinator for our clients is to purchase a set of maps for each install, then we are attempting to be legal.

                    Hi All,

As commented elsewhere all the embedding into frodo player is looking sweet now.

However, still no sign of my SDK from the supplier

I have everything except this ready to rock.

                    V impressed.

The only other issue is the skin I am using in frodo doesn't map onto my 7" linitx resolution nicely

                        What is the "DestDLL_08_05.zip" ?

I only got a link to 3.0.75_97_COM_API.zip from Destinator after purcase of the SDK.

                        Thanks!

The destdll.dll file that comes with the sdk won't read maps > 3 Megs in size. However, the destdll_08_05.zip contains a destdll.dll which allows you to use maps > 3 megs in size which is suppose to expire in august of this year. However, I changed my date on my computer to next year and the file worked fine, so not sure how it's supose to expire.

                            Hi Guys,

Just received my copy of the SDK file DestDLL_08_05.zip from Rafiq, I am just discussing the ongoing situation with him now over the expirey status and future strategy etc.Seems responsive right now, I will summarise the conversation when I have some conclusions...

Looking forward to getting map monkey working properly tonight when I get home.

                              Hi all,

below is the guts of an email conversation I have had with Rafiq on the SDk situation.

Although it is not conclusive, it does give me some faith that thing will shae out in due course.

                              Read from the bottom up.

                              Hi Rafiq,

I will stop disturbing you now!

I appreciate your time, and have faith that some form of solution will be available to licensed SDK users when this SDK DLL expires.

                              Thans again.
