  • "Map not registered" and "Destinator SDK not for sale" messages *UPDATED*

I know you had it easy in the last few versions, but I can no longer provide a modified SDK with Map Monkey.

The on-screen message "Destinator SDK not for sale" and the message "Map not registered" when you try to open maps larger than 3mb are appearing because you are using a demo/unlicensed copy of the Destinator SDK.

    You have a few options...
    • 1. Wait around 2 weeks for the official PowerLoc PC version of destinator and buy that. This will include the required DLL to use with Map Monkey
    • 2. Wait for me to sort it out with PowerLOC so I can include the SDK and maybe become a reseller so you can purchase everything you need from me.

The DestDLL.DLL from any previous version of the "Destinator Frontend" will work fine (Although I no longer provide a download or support it). Just make sure you have a license to use it. I strongly recommend you stay legal with this.

Here's a basic rundown of what you need to get Map Monkey working

    Maps

You obviously need to purchase some maps to get any sort of useful functionality out of Map Monkey. For the US I've heard about a trial version of destinator that includes the full maps for $15. Someone needs to check the legality of using these maps before I start giving links though.

For the UK, you can purchase the maps here for 72

Most other maps (including US) can be purchased at stores like this

The "Major Road of..." maps, while being cheap, aren't very good for normal routing as they're most likely to only show highways/motorways and have very little detail. You should only purchase these if you regulary make long trips (particulary the US, where the maps are split into several zones...having the major roads map makes it easy to route across them)

    SDK

This now needs to be purchased and can be obtained here. You might aswell buy the cheapest support option, seeing as you aren't going to be doing any development with it that will require support. That will be $50.

There's still some confusion with this at the time of writing. When you purchase the SDK, you will be emailed the same trial version you already have. Ignore this and send an email to [email protected] stating you have purchased the SDK and require the DestDLL_08_05.zip file. When you receive this, overwrite the DLL in the DestinatorApps\Destinator folder with that one.

    Easy!

      Destinator 3

      Hi,

I've ordered SDK and emailed the guy about the DestDLL file. I have also ordered the Europe version of destinator 3, hoping it is not just a major roads version for UK!

The guy you said to email has responded with the following:

      Hello,
The file which you are requesting is no longer valid. It has expired and is no longer available. The file used to be used by developers for testing created applications in their local area.
      Thanks
      Rafiq

I've also detected some concerns from people that it may not wok very well with Map Monkey... can anyone offer ome assurance that I've not just wasted some money???

      Thanks,

        Map Monkey and Destinator 3

I am confused to be honest.

I have signed up to SDK and received the files. Destinator staff have said the DestDLL file is no longer valid, when I explained it was for Map Mokey he said:

'I have heard of map monkey however they instruct individuals to ask for a certain file that is expired. The SDK is a tool that will allow you to develop an application rather then run a developed application. If this is a created application then you will require Destinator 3 in order run the software.
        hope this helps'

I assume then that all I need is the Destinator 3 software? Can anyone help? I should have the software today so will be looking to install later tonight. Any assistance would be appreciated.

        Thanks ,

You're not the only one who is confused, I'm not entirely sure on the procedure either...I don't even think they are! You'll find that you get different answers depending on who you speak to

Seeing as this guy has specifically told you that all you need is D3 to make Map Monkey work, I suggest you reply when you recieve it asking what to do next, as I'm pretty sure you don't get the PC SDK with the PocketPC version of the product, unless something has changed.

Keep me updated - but don't worry about wasted money, I can promise that you'll have Map Monkey working one way or another if you've purchased D3

            Maps

Below is the email trail of my correspondence with them, they don't really offer much help to be fair, suggested contacting map monkey!!!

I have now got the software and have tried to copy the maps accross but it doesn't work still! SDK not for sale message!

            ----------------------------------------

With the SDK you can create applications that will run with your Destinator 3 software so your purchase is not for nothing. There are so many simple functions that you can create. Take a look at the user manual and you will see for yourself.
            Thanks

Oh dear, does this mean I have wasted $50 purchasing the tech support for SDK?

I have ordered Destinator 3 and should receive it today so I will try and see if it functions with map monkey. Thanks for your time,

            Andy

OK. I have an in car PC and run a piece of software known as 'Map Monkey'. I currently have Destinator 2 and want to upgrade to Destinator 3. I was told in order to get he software to work with map monkey I would require this. Are you aware of map monkey and if so do you know whether I require anything further to ensure compatability, I have ordered the SDK and Destinator 3 Europe.

            Any help would be appreciated.

Hmm...you should try telling them that when trying to "create applications that will run with your Destinator 3 software" you are unable to open any maps due to the "Not for sale" message. Hopefully they'll send you the correct DLL to use with map monkey.

                Right then....

                Hello Andy,
The maps that will work with the SDK are the sample maps provided. The regular Destinator maps will not work because they are not registered to work with the SDK. The sample maps give you the flexibility to develop applications using the SDK.
Destinator maps will not work with the map monkey application.
                Thanks
                Rafiq

The irony is I think they are working now and I don't have the first clue how. I literally rebooted the PC and started map monkey and up it came. I certainly have a good view of london and when I zoom out it shows all the UK! I haven't tried the european maps yet but will do as soon as I have the PC back in the car.

I'm really having a hard time understanding their logic! What's the point in 'having the flexibility to develop applications' if the application you develop won't work with anything other than sample maps?! Somebody help me, am I missing something?!

Nope you're missing nothing .... they have no foresight at all, even the new Destinator PN SDK is a waste of space ... it crashes!

Well I was about to buy the sdk and the maps when I found out that people who had paid were having all this hassle. It practically forces you to use the other method.

As you guys have said. what is the poiing of releasing the SDK when it won't work with real maps. Surely there must be some info they are holding back. It's pretty crap that people wasted $50 to get a useless .dll that was only valid for a couple of months.

Also, I'm not 100% sure. (second hand info only) that the PN version (could have even been the demo) here in OZ is being shipped with MM on the disk. I am not sure if Ninja Monkey has given permission for this, but I thought it was interesting. Does anyone have any more info on this?

                          Final Word From Destinator!

I asked for a refund as one of the sales people knew of map monkey and advised I would need sdk...

                          Hello Andy,
The only person in our organization that deals with the SDK is myself. I do not advise using the SDK with map monkey. This information is posted on forums by other as stated in your pervious emails. If a developer has created an application and you would like to use that application you would need to purchase the Destinator software and maps program that allows full size Destinator maps to be used. The SDK is a tool to develop applications either by integrating the software into an existing program or creating a new add on application. This is what the SDK is to be used for as stated on our SDK website:

                          Thanks
                          Rafiq

(I think mine is now working)

All they had to do was offer the DLL that would work with MM and FreeDrive for a reasonable price and I'm pretty sure they'd have quite a few sales with people buying that and the Maps.

Now they're just forcing people to get it the other way. Their loss
