  • Re-mapping of volume controls: Winamp Vs System volume

It seems the volume buttons in Mediacar are mapped to the System volume. However, I would like to remap them to the Winamp volume.

The reason is that I got an USB Sonica Theater for multichannel sound and Circle surround. However, when using the Sonica the system volume controls only the front spearkers but not the surrounds. The winamp volume controls all speakers.

IF I could change the volume control within mediacar to control the winamp volume that would solve it.

    Thanks!

The Wave controller would be fine too.

It depends on which "filter"? you use. I use directsound and the wave slider doesn't work for me. For volume control I need to use the Winamp slider of the mixer screen.

Strange I use directsound too, but for me wave is enough.
The problem with Winamp controller is that it has a very small range.

Do you have epia M1000? or what setup do you have?

I do use an Epia M1000, but for multichannel sound I use an M-audio sonica theater with the Dee3 Winamp plugin. This plugin requires wavesound.

I think the small range of the winamp volume is because the default preference for volume control within winamp is logarithmic. I changed it to linear and it works very well now.

            Cheers,

I swapped out the old Winamp from Mediacar with Winamp5.02. The only output plugin I use is KB 5.1. It's pretty nice so that all my 2-channel MP3s can be heard through all speakers. I just wish that I could configure mediacar to control the wave volume rather than the front channels!!

Out of curiosity, can you control the volume of individual channels with that plugin?

Do you have a link for it?

                Thanks,

You can control each channel individually, just go to "configure" your plugin. I would recommend using matrix and not pro-logic nor II. Also, if you are listening to 2-channel mp3s, I suggest setting the rear channels to left and right, not left-rear or right-rear. Try it, you'll see why. Also, adjust the gains so that no clipping is registered on the master volume bar on the right.

Cool. I bet you can also use this plugin with the AudigyNX to get multichannel sound with adjustable levels.

Control the winamp volume inplace of the device master volume to run around the multichannel problem is a good idea.

Control all the channels of a multichannel device is very difficult because the manufacturers keep it very closed.

Yes, I like the way winamp controls everything for you. The only real problem I am having is when I watch my Divx movies; that sound doesn't go through winamp and all I am able to do is control the front speakers. Funny thing too, when I lower the aux line on the mixer screen, it actually lowers the sound to my center/sub channels, weird. I guess the device mixer controls would have to be configured differently to everyone's machine to have it work properly.
