    UPDATED MARCH 7th, 2007 / 5:56AM
    SKIN INSTALLER: -=[ SCREENSHOTS - POST 3 ]=- Many Thanks go out to PlayerBeat for hosting the skins.

    I know I talked about doing this back when I created the Road Runner Installer, Updater and Embedding Updater, but I kinda didn't follow through as I got very frustrated with the way some of the skins were laid out, the amount of editing required for some, etc... and got carried away in my own CarPC project (still in progress lol).

    So, what I'm going to do, is use the more popular 'easy' skins, that don't require tons of editing, and use those. Like BAV2, Bongo, Zots Day, etc...
    I figure the ones using this will mainly be newbies anyways, so they'll just be needing something basic to get them going. If you have a more advanced skin that you would like me to add to this, shoot it to me, but please have it well documented (a "Install.txt or ReadMe.txt" at the very least) so we're not trying to achieve this, nor the end users installing the skins...

    The other option we have is this installer can install any skin, and if it requires more in-depth editing/configuration, just display the "Install.txt or ReadMe.txt" that would accompany each skin and let the end user finalize the setup.

    I'll be updating this post/thread as the project progresses. Stay tuned...

    Skins to be used are rearchived to ensure folder layout, give a better archive filename, and to ensure maximum compression.

    The program will detect the Road Runner skin location, or prompt you for the location. The cool thing is the skins are controlled by a "SkinSet#.ini" file.
    Code:
    [config]
    server=http://innovatedaudio.com/W3bMa5t3r/
    skin_1=Bongo
    skin_2=Brushed_Aluminum_Version_2
    skin_3=TR-Blue
    skin_4=Aero_Beta
    skin_5=Pioneer
    skin_6=Zots.Day
    skin_7=
    skin_8=
    skin_9=
    skin_10=

    They reflect the skin's archive file names and also how the skin name's are displayed in the program. So if we wish to change the skins installed, you distribute a new "config.ini" file, ensuring the new archives are named and built correctly with proper folder layout, etc.

    Running the program, if you try to install a skin that's been removed or is being updated, you will get a prompt telling you it's unavailable. If it's there, it will download it to the script directory, extract the archive and move it to the correct skin location with the correct skin folder name.

    As with the Road Runner Installer and Updater, the file "7za.exe" is included for extraction processes. It is safe, it's the 7-Zip command line extractor. Also with the Road Runner Installer and Updater, if you get a Virus Alert, turn OFF advanced heuristic detection. These files are scanned by AVG with the latest updates. (You'll only see the "7za.exe" WHILE the program is running, otherwise it's embedded 'inside' the installer)

    The program will give you a progress bar while downloading to let you know it's working, as most skins are 5-25MBs in size and may take a while to download depending on your connection. Once downloaded it will continue with the extraction and installation process. You will be informed if it was successful or not.

    If the installation is successful and the skin includes a "readme.txt" or "info.txt" file, it will be displayed for you, to include those in the \readme\ subfolder some skinners create.

    ##############################
    THE README INCLUDED
    ##############################
    INSTALLATION PROCEDURE

    [1] Install Anywhere, but preferably in your Road Runner directory,

    i.e.

    C:\Program Files\Road Runner\RRSkinInstaller\

    [2] The SkinSet#.ini file controls everything. Check the thread for the latest server and skins/SkinSet#.ini files
    available. The details for this are there.

    [3] Run the program, if it detects the location of your RR install, you may proceed to select
    and preview the skins and the install the one you choose. If your RR install location is not
    detected, it will give you the option to set it. Once done it will continue as mentioned
    above.

    [4] The program will download and extract the skin you've chosen. Once done you will be
    notified and the program will exit. If the skin includes a readme.txt or info.txt, that will
    be displayed for you.

    [5] Run Road Runner's Config.exe to set the new skin or if your current skin has a skin
    browser, you may use it to set the new skin.

    That's it... if you have any questions post them in the thread.
    ##############################

    Please let me know if there are any issues.
    Thanks and Enjoy,
    The W3bMa5t3r

      UPDATED: PLEASE SEE POST # 12

      NEW SCREENSHOTS:

      All skin names and the server it pulls the skins from are configurable by the "SkinSet#.ini" file. The screenshot will change with the selection of each skin, so you get a preview of the skin before downloading.

      If you would like me to include your skin, please PM me. For the skins I'm including already, the creators are about to receive a PM asking your permission to distribute with this program and in this fashion. Thanks to all for helping out the RR community.

      Cheers... The W3bMa5t3r

        hehe give it time.

        I for one would welcome one. I installed the NSIS installer with the idea of creating an installer for my skin. Problem is its alittle complicated for what I want since my skin is just an addon/modification of a current skin.

          Sounds good. The more programs for RR the better for the mp3car community.

          edit: Maybe should have put this one more node out....RR Skins

            Thanks Well it's just about done... I just need some volunteers to host the rearchived skins...

            And yeah I wasn't sure about where to put it, but I guess the skins subforum would be more logical ... @ the mods, feel free to move it if you so choose

              Ah no, the installer pulls/downloads a rearchived zip of the skins (done for folder layout, compression, etc)... so I'll remove it

                  That would be great I'm heading in to work soon so once there I'll figure out a skin to replace the iDrive skin for now and get the program for ready for testing/release. I just have one additional feature that I'm trying to work out (lol actually while writing this post I thought of another thing I want to add, so make that two more features )..

                  Anywho... thanks mate...

                    Okie Doke, the RR Skin Installer has been released (see the first post). Let me know what you all think or if you encounter any issues. Cheers.

                    /edit: Also, if you'd like me to add your skin, shoot me a PM. Thanks...

                    THE NEXT GEN SKIN INSTALLER (If you downloaded the old, please grab this one, it fixes a few bugs and is just plain better)

                    Ok, the new version has been uploaded and is now available. It'll be the same link as in the first post.

                    Changes:
                    1. Fixed a bug that was pushing CPU usage to 100%. The program now uses next to nothing.

                    2. Completely rebuilt the GUI. You can now select the different skinsets inside the program and see the changes. Preview and install all the skins without having to exit the program. Progress bar and dynamic text inform you of what's occurring.

                    3. Changed the skinsets to hold 10 skins per.

                    Hope you all enjoy. Cheers.

                        Skinsets updated. Download the two in the first post and drop them in your Skin Installer folder or copy & paste the contents into the two in your folder.

                        Cheers.
