    Read this:
    http://www.mp3car.com/vbulletin/powe...down-time.html

    From Laidback website:
    http://www.cynian.net/index?name=car...iddle=carputer
"No need for a shutdown controller if you use WinXP! Setup a generic UPS with a 'Negative Signal Polarity' in WinXP>Power Options, Then connect 5v from the PSU through a relay to pin 8 on the com port. Connect your 12v ACC line to activate the relay when your key is in the ingition. When you take your key out of the ignition, the ACC line drops to 0v which causes WinXP to close down. Simple!
For a quicker boot and shutdown enable Hibernation or STR/Standby."

      Arggg!

Ok everyone says to connect to connect the +5V to pin 8 on the COMM port. No one mentions rather or not to ground it. I just do not see how the voltage can be measured if their is no ground on the circuit. Sounds like a open circuit. I am betting I am missing something (my brain at times) here.

This is a great idea if I it works. I wanted to take it a little further and embed a momentary switch in the driver seat. The effect is when the driver is sitting in the seat the car pc senses someone their and when the driver leaves the vehicle the car pc senses it and then starts a program wich will wait approximatley say 30 minutes and then execute a shutdown sequence if no one interrupts. I look at it as a amnesiacs (i.e. me) answer to remember to shut off the car pc. Trust me I have had to jump my van twice so far.

Most seats have a switch in them already, for seat belt and airbag warnings.

BE VERY CAREFUL though! You do not want to hook something up that will over ride the airbag or something!

Naw...an occasional air bag to the face can do wonders...hehe

No, seriously... when one deals with anything of this nature (air bags/saftey) you need be triple check your connections, wiring plan..ect

            Hi!

I use the fake ups tip from one year ago, with succes!
But I want to upgrade to Windows 7 and the power managment no longer exists

Is there a way to replace this useful tip? like a software who can see if there is a signal on the serial port and then make an action?

            Thanks a lot!!!

many thanks guino!! I think it's what I want!!

but just one problem, I use Centrafuse, not RR.
So I must find how to make action when Serialswitch detect input on serial port

                I take a look!

Well, this is the RR forum, so I assumed you were using RR (which I know works with serialswitch). I don't know if there's a way for SerialSwitch to work with CF, but if not, you probably should look for something like it, but made for CF.

Hum I don't see I was in the RR section
'cause I found this topic by made a search.

CF have a SDK, so I think it's possible, but too hard for me!
I must find another way, thanks again!!

ok I created a small program for doing this, but not a plugin, it's a .exe who hibernates computer if the CTS state of com1 is off.

                      I will publish this later

and one thing: it's ok with windows 7!! 'cause the power managment no longer exists in 7.
