  • Getting information from OBDII software

    Hello, I was wondering if it's possible to capture data from a software and display it on a skin.

    I want to use the OBDII software Enginuity but I have no idea how to do this. Any help?

    The software would have to provide some sort of API/SDK, then something could be written in RR or as a plugin for it.. other than that, you can embed the app.

      This guy on this tread seems to have been able to do it, but he is no longer available to provide any info.

        From the posted files, he was simply embedding the software in a screen. Nothing new.

            I managed to embed the actual software, but what I want to do is a littel different but it involves the same software. I provided Guino the software, so hopefully he can help us out.

              This seems to work fairly well (enginuity.skin is a copy of external_gps.skin):

              Code:
              "LOAD;Enginuity.skin;Enginuity;C:\Program Files\Enginuity\Enginuity.exe;Enginuity||Wait;3||RUNQ;;Enginuity ECU||ACTIVATE;Enginuity||SENDKEY;%||SENDKEY;LO"
              For better results, I'd suggest playing with 2 screens in RR cause this is an example of a badly written application where the second window is not "parented" by the first one -- which may be nice in some situations (like this one where the second window is resizeable), but awkward in other cases.

                  guino, I tried it with your code for launching Enginuity. A couple of questions. First, is there a way to bypass the first screen and launch the second one instead directly into the Logger/Dashboard view. Going a little far here, but would be possible just to have the Dashboard view side of the window open/active without the menu bar or the selection bar on the side? Also, when RR is closed, the Enginuity application doesn't close, it stays open.

                    if you want, try what i use in my skin, really easy to set up, and is ready to go, the main sofware is OBD-DIAG(skinnable, with a lot of work). not sure if is similar to what you looking for. just another option. the link is my signature "SOME TOOLS"

                      I'm checking out your skin. This is a OpenSource software that can be used for Subarus with a cheap Tatrix cable and that's why I'm trying to make it work, actually guino is trying to make it work

                        Sorry, I didn't make the application itself.. meaning: what we can do with it (like tell it which screen to start on, etc) is pretty much out of my hands... one can spend countless hours trying to brute-force it into doing what you want and still don't get anywhere.. just shooting out there, but a suggestion would be to contact the author and see if he's willing to add some options to do what you want.

                          Do you know how the previous mentioned person that was using it with his WRX was getting information from the software and putting a ticker on the main menu of RR? If this is possible, then a skin can be created and just the wanted values to be shown on each text box or what ever.

                            Maybe he went through all that process of setting up the development environment and modified the software itself.. I don't see any API or SDK for this application, so either he made something or just embbeded it in RR.. perhaps using skinbedder which can customize the application a little better.

                              guino, I'm happy with what the app. does now, for some reason now after launching it will go into the logger. So now all I have to do is select the dashboard tab.

                              Question though, do you know why the app. doesn't close when I close RR? It still stays opened.
