  • How do I use Custom Lists?

I've been searching around now for a few hours now and read over the help file and Skin Commands.txt and still don't have a clear understanding how to use custom lists.

If someone could take the time to explain, I'd really appreciate it.

    Thanks!

The easiest way is to open the skin editor and add a new launch list to a skin, but at the top, add a 'C' to the 'S' so you get "SC",

then just set all the colors and font name size and there you have it, your very own customlist...

Okay, that was the easy part.

Now, what can I do with it?

I mean, RRhelp described DL's, PB's, PL's, etc w/ other commands CLSAVE, CLADD, etc., but I'm not quite sure how they all fit together.

guino mentioned something about JohnWPB using it for lyrics as an example, but how is it getting fed into RR to be displayed?

      Any ideas?

you need to have something in mind...

and upon getting an idea, what would you use to put whatever in the list?

a customlist is for users that are/have a plugin that needs to list thing for the user, and until this release this had to be done by using a listbox from the actual app, instead of being able to use RR's native list so that it looks like the plugin is native to rr..

            Ah...icic...

Clearly, something still beyond my ability to use as I'm still learning how to write scripts.

            Cool. Thanks!

i just wrote a script for a task manager like list, if you want you can take a look at it, is very easy, theres a bug in the custom list(just the fonts colors everything else works), guino knows about it, and he said, it will be fixed in the next release.

I've made an example/test screen for the BMV2 skin in the Phoco screen..

Download the attached over your phoco.skin of the BMV2 skin (make a backup first). Then open it and start pressing the buttons in sequence.. then look in the file to understand what's going on.

Cool. If you wouldn't mind sharing, I'd love to look at it.

I'm sure I could learn a thing or three.

                      Custom list example

As for the lyrics mentioned above:

First, I used a script to save the lyrics to a text file.

I then have CL (Custom List) in the skin. then in the exectbl.ini I used the following code:

                      Code:
                      "LoadLyricsList","CLLOAD;$skinpath$scripts\SongLyrics.txt;true"
The ;true at the end, just tells the custom list to not use any formatting on the text file.

Lastly, the button code, that displays the lyrics has this code:

                      Code:
                      "Load;Lyrics_Display.skin||LoadLyricsList"
That just loads the skin that has the Custom List in it, and sends the command to load the SongLyrics.txt into the list.

Hopefully looking at some of the examples will make it clearer as to what can be done.

just loose the txt, see the code in autoit Scite console, compile it if you want to use it.
of course you need a skin with the custom list.very easy.

                        heres the code from mine.

                        Code:
                        SC,15,16,304,409,0,0,0,0,0,0,36,55,134,255,255,255,true,18,"Segoe Media Center Semibold:B"
and the code for using the script in road runner this goes in ExecTBL

                        Code:
                        "TASK_MANAGER","LOAD;task_man.skin;Task Manager;;||PROCESS_LIST"
                        "PROCESS_LIST","RUNQ;$SKINPATH$TaskMan.exe|load_process"
                        "WINDOWS_LIST","RUNQ;$SKINPATH$TaskMan.exe|load_windows"
                        "KILL_PROCESS","RUNQ;$SKINPATH$TaskMan.exe|kill_process"
                        "CLOSE_WINDOW","RUNQ;$SKINPATH$TaskMan.exe|close_window"
                        "OPEN_PROCESS","RUNQ;$SKINPATH$TaskMan.exe|run_process"

Here is a slighly modded script...

Better to use the "Switch xxx" command vs the select b/c reqires slightly less code.

i used custom lists for my emulator programs. i have one "emu_list.skin" file that has a custom list and buttons to load roms from each of the six emulators i have on my system. Upon pressing the "nintendo" button the custom list is populated with a list of nintendo roms i have. Then i select the one i want, hit load and the "games.skin" loads the emulator of my choice with the game of my choice via a command line script. If i were to change my mind and want to play a MAME game, i press the MAME button and it clears the current list, then loads the mame list. Its a nice, simple, and effective way to manage categories of items in rr.
