  • Please explain gamma settings

I have a Lilliput 8" Wide Model 889GL-80NP/C/T, using RR and it's built in gamma control.

At night, the brightness of the screen is still too high.

It is not secure. People from other cars or pedestrians can notice the screen very easily at night.

So, what settings are you using in your gamma configuration? Or what else are you configuring or doing to reduce screen brightness at night?

PS: At day normal or high brightness is important.

    Thank you
Above is a question from another member that didn't get any response in the monitor forum which i'm also interested in. I'm posting it here in hopes of getting a better response.

Basically, the monitor (8" lilliput 889GL) is too bright at night even with the normal "default" reduced gamma. Would like to know how gamma works and what settings to change to get it darker.

I (we) know there's a gamma setting in config; just don't know how to accomplish the above.

    Thanks

To make it darker you want to make the colorls farther away from zero on the negitive side. default is -50, so try -75 ect..

what this does is changes the brightness of each color up or down, although many argue that dimming by using gamma doesn't do as good job as a reduced backlight. The reduced backlight is a much better resulting dimmed picture, but w/o the know-how, time, effort...ect the gamma route is just easier to use, it just doesn't give as good results...

Thanks ZX3, another question if i may: which take presedence, the gamma specified in general.ini or the one in your config? Do they interact in any way?

The skins gamma settings (from the last skin loaded) should take over if they exist, otherwise the config ones are used.

Thanks. At -80 (the max you can go?) it dimms considerably, much better than before.

Now i got to keep searching to see if i can find how to make it come out of dimm when the screen is touched (to make changes in playlists and such) then return to dimm after some idle time..

Could be done with the idle skin command only if the gamma setting were able be be set/changed on-the-fly.

IF the settings in the skin are messing with the settings in the control. What is the best way to fix this? What is the best way to remove the settings in the skin general file?

Somebody correct me if i'm wrong but i think if you set these all to 0, the settings in config will take over.

You would also need to set the gamma to use the external app, either gamma pannel or Gamma Control...if your using that to control your gamma( you didn't really specify).
