  • transparent menu overlay?

i'm using the MENU function to bring up a menu list that i created. it works fine and overlays on the current page with no problem, but i would like the menu to appear over a certain area of the screen rather than centered, which is what it does by default.

the menu list that is called up is only about 150x500px. i tried putting that onto a 800x600 transparent background first, positioning it where i wanted it to be on the screen. i saved the file as both a gif and png, but neither worked. the transparent areas were all solid when i pressed the button to call up the menu list.

am i missing something, or is this not possible?

did you set the X and Y in the .skin file of the menu? you do that like so

    Code:
    /POSX=15
    /POSY=231
add that to the top of your .skin file then fiddle with the numbers to position it where u want.

Now anyone have ideas for the transparent menu...
That would be an awsome option.
You can set the transparency of the entire menu.
But to have just the background of the menu transparent would be sweet...

There are a few ways to do transparency in RR.

          Method 1.

You can set visibility for an entire screen by adding the line below to your .skin file. 70 is the percent of visibility.
          V,70

          Method 2.

You can paint areas of your image that you want to be 100% transparent PINK. It has to be 100% pink RGB 255,000,255 in photoshop. This method isnt used much anymore, esp for Menu screens as RR now will display the menu at its original size and not stretch it to fill the screen.

          Method 3.

You can use png files for the images and set your transparency in the png file itself. PNG files support transparency and RR will respect the transparent areas of the images.
For a standard screen in RR using PNG files you want to set the images up a certain way.

There are 4 layers of images in RR that will be overlayed ontop of an optional end user specified background image.
          The 4 layers are
          EMPTY
          OFF
          ON
          DOWN

EMPTY is the layer where you want to set the base transparency for your screen.

OFF is what your screen looks like with the buttons and other items in there off state and typically only includes the button elements and not the main background of the screen in the image file, but this differs from skin to skin.

ON is what your screen looks like with buttons etc in there ON state and usually only contains those elements with there on or highlight color, but also differs from skin to skin on the actual contents.

DOWN is the same as OFF and ON but what the buttons look like in there depressed (clicked) state. For my skin i dont even bother with creating a unique graphic for this layer and instead use the same image that i use for the ON state.

all of these layers support transparency with png files and if you were to create 4 layers in photoshop and layer them correctly it should look exactly the same in RR.

Other than specifying the png files to use for the screen, all you have to do to enable png transparency is to make sure in rr.ini you have fastmode=-1 and the latest version of RR that uses GDIPlusWrapper.dll which should already be registered on your machine when you install the latest RR.

How about a transparent image over an indicator like albumart?
              Seems albumart stays on top.

You could load a transparent MENU over an album art (it likely will work), but you'll not be able to access the options of that screen while the menu is open. The only other option (through RR) would be to embed an application that just displays the image, at the position you desire (over the art image) and use the transparent command to set it's visibility after loading the application... doesn't seem like a very helpful thing though.

                  Thx for that.
Sorry, my question was a bit off topic, but what I want is to place an IMG over the ALBUMART indicator... and the image doesn't stay on top.
