  • Smoothing things out

    Hi, all!
So, I fairly new here. I've got te latest version of RR runnign on my beat up laptop, outputting to a stereo head and a Xenarc 700TSV. I love everthing so far. I guess I'll be using this space to post my progress, and see if I get any responses about the bugs I find, or my thoughts about RR and it's plugins. I'm also using the digitalFX 3.0 skin.

    1. I've found that when I put the Laptop into standby or hibernate, RR doesn't resume from where the track left off. It will either start from the beginning of the track or fro mthe beginning of the playlist. Any fix for this? Really annoying when listening to audio books. FIXED: Thanks Machinehead, resume setting somehow got set to 'false' in rrconfig.

    2. Anyway to get milkdrop to go full screen without the flickering from RR beneath it?

    3. Microsft Streets and trips 2008 really seems to suck as a GPS program. I think I'll start using iGuidance 4.0.

    4. I'm looking forward to the Outlook plugin, maybe and IE or Firefox plugin would be great?
PARTLY RESOLVED: no integrated outlook plugin, found browser option, although in DFX 3.0 it seems there is button corruption on the bottom of the screen.

    5. Maybe we could swap the buttons for, say, gauges or themes, for the Outlook plugin.
RESOLVED: hold button for two seconds, thanks all.

    6. Might be great to use RRconfig to edit the buttons. Shouldn't be too hard to do...
RESOLVED: Hold button for two seconds.

    7. Integrated Wifi settings maganer plugin? This'd be great.
    RESOLVED: already there.

    8. Skype plugin + webcam + cellulard/wifi card = win! Now all we need is a Skype plugin...

That's about all I can think of for now. Any ideas?

regarding #1, does anybody know if it must be winamp 2.95? If this is a wimap problem, maybe I should just update winamp.

for #1) sounds like winamp.dll isnt registered correctly. Did you register it?

      2) Visualizations eat Via processors for afternoon snacks. If you have a low end PC it will always flash. If you have a high end and it is flashing then something is up. You didnt say what your specs were, but judging from your laptop description, I guess it is old/no good.

      3) iGuidance 4 UMPC is good. M$ Streets & Trips has way superior POI database. Use both.

      4) Click Web and it will open your browser of choice.

      5) You can do whatever you want. It is skinnable 100%

      6) RRConfig is for configuring. Not for skinning. The skin editor is for skinning.

      7) Lots of skins have wifi status integrated and even netstumbler and such.

      8) You can embed any program. If you already have a video calling program from skype, just embed it like any other program such as GPS. Done.

        5) You can press and hold any of the main menu buttons, and then choose what function you want associated with that button. The same holds true for the weather cities at the top of the weather skin.

        6) See above

        8) Webcam support is under utilities / Camera. Check out the RRCam thread for instructions and setup.

Check your resume setting for music as well as your hibernation settings in RRConfig. If you're using the winamp line-in plugin you'll never get it to work right.

There's a new button manager for DFX, it's near the end of the thread.

Embed your wifi manager in to DFX, there's a how to in the DFX thread.

            Thanks for the replies!

            I'm down to:

2, 3, 8 and part of 4, although that seems to be a DFX issue.

What about trying a different Vis than Milkdrop? The visualizations that come with DFX use AVS I believe.

Brother, that's like giving up a Ferrari for a Ford Tempo. Milkdrop is the best, bar none.

Anyway, Milkdrop runs in the Viz window fine, as long as it's selected in RRconfig.

In a way thats definately right. However, I would not give up the transparent capabilities of the AVS visu's in Road Runner.

Transparent, like it runs as the background instead of wallpaper or something? That'd be cool.

Well, things are going very well, I love RR!

Now, the main problem I notice is that Winamp or iGuidance don't always seem to close when I exit RR. So, when I go back into RR, my GPS won't connect, or winamp acts weird. A reboot always fixes it, or even manually killing the processes. Is there some kind of auto-kill-on-exit script out there?

Transparent as in you can put it on top of the skin in a defined area, and set the level of transparency for it.

Here are a couple screen caps, one covering the top of the skin, one with it on top of album art. The nice part is you can click through the transparent visu's, so it can be placed on top of buttons ect.

if iGuidance is not closing when RR closes, it sounds like it is not embedded correctly in some way. Winamp is another problem though! The next Version of the DFX skin will make sure Winamp is KILLED when RR closes As you can tell I have had this issue myself!
