  • Road Runner dead?

Road Runner seems to come to its end of lifetime - as many great other open source projects: lack of further developing and no clear open source basis/publication.

i am sure many of us are willing to take over and integrate so many of the desired functions natively but are not sure how to do and on what code basis.

pleaseguino and others we all understand if you have other priorities and appreciate all your great effort and time spent to make what road runner is today but please tell us what is the source base and how to use. i urgently need

    - native vlc support (instead winamp/media player). vlc is just best performant and most compatible player for audio and video
    - gps reminder functions
    - garmin mobile osk and embedding
    - dvb-t tv from cinergy cards
    - media copy and synchronization natively
    - explorer and browser native integration (touch screen friendly)
    - etc.

        - gps reminder functions **Coming very soon**
        - garmin mobile osk and embedding **there are tons of OSK's available, and it is Garmins fault for not having one, Not RR's **
        - dvb-t tv from cinergy cards **Most TV cards work through a Winamp Plugin, check the FAQ at the top of the forums**
        - media copy and synchronization natively **This is not a function for RR really, it is up to you to get the files to the PC that you want. However, there is a media copy in the DFX skin, as well as a stand alone app by CDRSkull **
        - explorer and browser native integration (touch screen friendly) **Use Fire Fox as your browser, and get a plugin for it called "Grab and drag" It allows you to drag anywhere on the screen to scroll the page. **
        - etc. **That was added in the last beta **

I think nixing winamp as the audio backbone to RR would be a negative am I the only one that thinks this way?

Not at all... the OP might be the only that thinks the opposite.

I'm not a huge fan of Winamp, I'd like to see something like MPC or VLC here too, but... meh.

For media synchronization, just use the built in file synchronization in Windows. You can set it up to keep a designated pair of folders on two machines synchronized whenever a network connection is available.

hey.. vlc.. just embed it as an ext. application... it works fine... it supports hot keys.. so, you can have your buttons behave anyway you want... That's how i use it...

Don't forget Upd8 for the Synchro.

Well there is already another option for audio apart from winamp which is FMOD, it just depends on whether Guino can hook into a DLL for VLC.

I'd rather use foobar2000 myself, but winamp's alright.

yah, people have their favorite programs but I was more comparing winamp against the op's vlc as a mp3 player.

I don't get the whole debate on what audio program to use.... Of course all of my collection are MP3's, so that could make a difference.

Personally I never see winamp, as it starts and runs in the background, visualizations are supported, as well as playlists ect ect.

To me, it doesn't matter what is letting me use my music library in RR, as I never see it, it just integrates seamlessly.
