  • Bug? RR Freezes when I click music

I've just downloaded all of the files needed to got RR up and running. It's turning out to be a great app btw! I am having one big issue though. RR freezes when I click on the Music button. This happens in both of the skins that I have tried out, Carwings and LSX Void 3.2. Is this a bug or am I doing something wrong?

    I'm using:
-winamp 2.95 the one that another post says is good for compatibility.
    -VB 6.0

i would imagine that this is related to "directx" ... which is needed for ilist support. at a minimum RR with ilist need DX7 or greater installed on the computer. I've seen this issue once or twice on pc's without DirextX support installed ...

you can download direct x from the microsoft website.

I tried this solution, but it's a no go... I installed dX 9. I don't know why but every skin that I try (even the default one that is bundled with the installer for RR) says "demo" at the top. I dunno what this means cuz I got everything from Guino's website. Could this possibly have anything to do with it? *EDIT* please forgive my complete ignorance... Demo is the name on the "song" that is playing. It's the file that says something about kicking a llamas butt, lol. *EDIT*

I might add that said default skin does not have this problem. I can access the music section just fine.

Running all of this in a VM in VMware fusion (macbook pro) wouldn't prevent any of this from running would it?

I wouldn't think VMware would give you any hassle. I have mine running under VirtualBox. the "demo" that you see is a demo track that is bundled with winamp. You'll see it if you open winamp directly the after first install as well.

Did you double-check your music path in RRconfig?

Also, try changing the skin graphic settings in RRconfig, try redraw or wtf ever the option is.

I have heard of DirectX problems on mac emulation. Change it to the GDI option, as I know GDI+ works with .NET apps over emulation so it might work then too.

GDI! Yeah, that's what I was thinking. Don't have a copy of RR right in front of me... and I'll be damned if I actually went searching for it. Whoopsie poopers.

Unfortunately, the GDI+ option was already selected.

I was successful in playing music in the default skin, and a skin called Tennik1. Any other suggestions... Lol?

Check flash install maybe? Beats me. I know I had strange problems running RR under wine until I got flash installed correctly in my instance.

I have a suggestion... Run windows natively like a normal person?

Do any skins with iLists work for you? It could be a specific problem with that. Why not just disable the ilist part of the skin and see if it works. I dont use ilists and the world hasnt ended yet so not everything with an "i" prefix is that neccessary...

well, when I get done testing my setup, it will be on native windows... vm's are awesome for this cuz it lets me have multiple FrontEnds - each with their own xp install.

I do believe it's an iLists problem. Here is a thread that I just found about it, but nobody really confirmed a solution.

How would I go about disabling the iLists part of the skin? I'm guessing that I need the Skin Editor, huh? *EDIT* well, I hope not... cuz the link to the skin editor takes me to a fake site with links and a searchbar *EDIT*

ok, so I have tried to open every file I could in the carwings skin, and could nothing about ilists. How would I know if a skin even uses ilists?

Open the audio_player.skin file in Notepad and check for a line like this...

/, IL, LIST, SelImg, UnselImg, EndImg, LimitMod e, Drag, MaxSpeed
                          IL,PL,unsel.bmp,sel.bmp,end.bmp,2,80,100

then you know it has an iList. Just comment it out.

Hmm... that's great info. Thank you! But this exacerbates the problem... it seems as though carwings v1.0 doesn't use iLists and it still freezes when clicking the music section. Below is it's relevant parts of some audio_player.skin and audio_browser.skin:

You have an iList for the play list in audio player and you have an iList as directory list in the browser.

Comment it out like this and check again..
