  • DO YOU ? Pandora, Imeem or other 'tailored/related streams'

Just wondered if anyone has been playing with free music streaming services like Pandora or Imeem?

I have my home page of my browser in the car set to pandora.com with my custom stations showing in the player and it works ok but the buttons and channel selection can be a bit fiddley.

I love the 'related music' music channels that use your suggestions as seeds to build the playlists on - great for the car where you want 'your kind of music' but dont want to be constantly messing around with the interface.

Would be great if we could find a way to take advantage of these services in a touchscreen friendly environment.

I've used Pandora on and off for a number of years. It's a nice free service. The sound quality isn't all that great unfortunately.

I actually find the sound quality to be pretty good for a streaming service, unless I've been looking in the wrong place and there are better options out there for tailored streaming

I too played with it for a while. But reverted back to Shoutcast Radio loaded into audio player for the same reasons as mentioned above (low bitrate and non touch friendly). I've got some Shoutcast streams in my playlists with 256 and 320 k bitrates and sound awesome.

Several are out there. Besides my methodology, there's JohnWPB's DFX3 inet radio, El Camino has a plugin in his Polaris skin, and a couple others that never got out of beta testing.

Yeah I run John's DFX3.0 skin with the net radio and it's great, even customized a few stations to some of our local ones, but that's just got me more addicted to streaming net radio - so the next big thing for me is the tailored streaming playlist

Doesn't mean I can't make a comment about the sound quality. I pay for Sirius, but I wouldn't stream it in the car either for similar reasons.

Exactly, Sirius uses 32k streams and I'm sure Pandora is about the same. They sound fine on PC speakers, but crap on a decent stereo.
