  • What to use for video without dropping music playlist?

I'm running into a small problem with RR that can't figure out a solution. Searching for "playlist" pulls up 20 pages of RR skin coding questions and a handful of unanswered questions. The FAQ section does not contain any information on this either...

Is there any way to set up RR to retain the music playlist after watching a vid?

I have Winamp set to not be used for video (even set it in the preferences of Winamp, also set it to not maintain extension), the MPC path is set in the config to open Media Player however Winamp gets used anyway which resets the playlist to whatever videos are in the vid folder. I don't watch much vids in the car (not really legal when driving), but it is an inconvenience to have to manually reload the playlist when I do end up loading a vid.

Its not a skin specific issue from what I've seen (used several different skins) as it happens with all of 'em.

I got the ffdshow thing installed, but willing to use a separate player provided its fairly easy to set up (KMP preferred since it supports MP4 out of the box)

if by "make sure its writable", you mean not marked read only in the properties, that's how it is...

yessir, there is text in the playlist file.

tried treetop's suggestion and that seemed to work as well. call this one solved.

opened 3 movies, switched back to music and it was still all there.

I'm digging this one from the dead because it's the closest thing I could find to resolving my problem.
My problem is exactly the same but the above fixes did not work for me. It works fine in the DigitalFX 4.0 skin so I even went as far as copying that video_browser.skin file into my folder and for some reason the video still opens in Winamp. Any other ideas?

Carwings works. When I play a video in carwings it automatically starts in MPC, if I go back to audio my playlist is still there.

In my skin, if I start a DVD it opens in MPC but regular video files open in Winamp and clear my playlist.

The only thing is I can't see a single significant difference in code to understand why it doesn't play in MPC.

That's the thing, I'm trying to use MPC for DVD and video files.
I'm sure my RRConfig is setup already, this is what it looks like:

looks good... u know to play dvd, the skin command is "DVD"
                        to play videos its "VIDEO"

they will both use "video_player.skin" unless u do have a "dvd skin"
                        -Thanks

I think what's screwing me up is my directory list somehow. This is the progression of my skin
menu.skin --> video.skin --> a DVD button that plays DVD directly through video_player.skin or a BROWSE button that brings up a directory list of my vidoes as video_browser.skin. When I click play on those videos it opens in Winamp. How do I make it open to video_player.skin when I click on the file?

If you open VIDEO files from the DVD player screen, then all bets are off... there has been no development or testing for this kind of functionality. Similarly, if you open the DVD from the VIDEO player screen, you're on your own..

If you're on the VIDEO player and want to go DVD player, I would suggest you execute "MAIN||DVD" and if you're on the DVD player and want to go to the VIDEO player, you should execute "MAIN||VIDEO" -- this is so "EXIT" doesn't throw you around from one player back to the other when exiting the screen, but if you don't use "EXIT" (i.e. by exiting with "MAIN") then you can call "DVD" or "VIDEO" directly to switch from one to another...

I'm not sure that's quite the issue because I'm able to play DVDs from the DVD player (button command "DVD" with MPC embedded in "video_player.skin") but when I'm trying to play a video it's from a skin I called "video_browser.skin" with a directory list command (S,xxx,xxx,xxx,xxx..etc) because I want it to list all available videos. When I click on one it opens in Winamp. How do I change what happens when I click on the video in the directory list?
