  • can someone make me a XP HORM image

I want to set up a vmware virtual machine
i dont really know how to build a HORM
but if someone can, then use vmware converter to make it a virtual machine
i can add it to my testing setup

    i dont really understand it

what i think it is, u set up the system how u want it
and that becomes the horm, and any changes post the setup
    are tossed on next resume
so it always resumes the same

    except some area of files?

    i need edumacation on this

    thanks

I'm sorry Mitch but asking for a XP HORM image is too close to asking for warez, which is frowned upon on this forum. I suggest you rephrase your request before someone else does.

This is a friendly warning, don't let it need be an official one.

Creating a HORM system isn't that difficult. There's an excellent HowTo on this forum, but here's what I've written in short:
      Code:
      Installing EWF and HORM:
      ------------------------
      Rename: C:\ntldr to C:\ntldr.bak
copy : ewfntldr file to C:\ntldr
      copy : ewfmgr.exe to C:\Windows\System32
      copy : ewf.sys to C:\Windows\System32\drivers
      delete: C:\Windows\bootstat.dat
      create: C:\resmany.dat

      Open RegEdit
      Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Enum\Root.
Right-click on Root and click ‘Permissions’. Set ‘Everyone’

      register ewf.reg
The reg key is attached (remove txt extension)

The important commands for using EWF and HORM:
      Code:
      Commands:
      ---------
Enabling EWF (drive will be protected after a restart): ewfmgr C: -enable
Disabling EWF (immediate, current changes will be safed): ewfmgr c: -commitanddisable -live

If you also wish to use minilogon:
      Code:
      Installing MiniLogon:
      ---------------------
      Rename: C:\Windows\System32\winlogon.exe to C:\Windows\System32\winlogon.bak
      Copy : minlogon.exe to C:\Windows\System32\winlogon.exe

Make sure that the new MinLogon file isn’t replaced by Windows File Protection

      register minilogon.reg
Again, reg key is attached (remove txt extension)

The required files (ewf.sys, ewfmgr.exe, ewfntldr, minlogon.exe) are found in this iso:
      http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en

Doesn't matter as you just need the mentioned few files. Uploading them somewhere would be illegal, so you have to download the whole iso.

You start with a normal XP installation. When you're finished you add the required files from the XPembedded-ISO.

You can protect partitions or drives, not individual folders.

I have two partitions on my CarPC.
                  C:\ SYSTEM
                  D:\ DATA

C:\ drive is ewf protected, so I can use HORM (I don't shutdown the system or hibernate, I just cut power. Because of EWF and HORM the system will still resume)
D:\ drive is NOT protected. Here I store my music/videos aaaaaaand RideRunner. I can add music and videos without disabling EWF.

                  What you have to do:
                  - set up the system as you wish (i.e. XPort, RideRunner, NavSoftware... in autostart)
                  - enable ewf. After a restart the drive C:\ will be protected
                  - restart the system
                  - after everything is loaded, hibernate. Then the permanent hibernate file will be created.
You can now cut power of the pc and it will still resume from the protected hibernate file. No need to shutdown or hibernate.

-You want to change something on the system partition ? Disable EWF, make your changes, then reactivate ewf as described.

-You want to add music or videos ? No need to disable EWF. Because D:\ is not protected, you can simply add music or videos to this partition and it will be available in RideRunner without the need of disabling EWF.

-You want to change settings of RideRunner ? RideRunner is on the unprotected drive D:\, so you can make your changes without disabline EWF. You'll have to create a new hibernate file, though. Restart the system and press F8 to interrupt loading the fixed hibernate file. Boot the system normally instead, so RideRunner loads with the new settings. Then hibernate to create a new fixed hibernate file.
