  • Help embedding on high res skin

    I've already created some skins for RR, and I never had problems embedding apps.
    I'm now creating a 1280x1024 skin for HTPC use. Apps won't embed though.
    For testing I copied these lines from one of my 800x600 skins (where everything works fine):

    Code:
    A01,185,059,615,314,000,000,000,$gpsname$
    C01,185,059,615,314
    When I paste these lines in my 1280x1024 skin the gps software doesn't embed.

    I edited the general.ini of my new skin and changed ShowWidth and ShowHeight to 800x600. The skin scales down fine, but embedding still doesn't work.

    Which leads me to my question :
    Does RR have problems with embedding on large skins ?

    Vista Business 64 (shouldn't be the problem though, the 800x600 is working fine)
    1280x1024 Desktop resolution
    1280x1024 new skin resolution (embedding doesn't work)
    800x600 old skin resolution (embedding does work)

    You said it does not embed at the lower resolution either, so for sure its not a problem with the larger screen size

    You have to make sure you have the correct window name of the GPS program for RR to be able to embed it.

    BTW, GPS on the HTPS.... I bet it is always going to show the same position

      Hmmm,why did I know that someone would comment on GPS :P ? GPS was just for testing . But also doesn't work with other apps . The window name is right. As I said, with the given lines the gps program embeds fine on the 800x600 skin, but not on the 1280x1024 skin.

        what command(s) do you use to load the screen? does the app RUN at all (and just doesn't embed)?

          using these two:
          Code:
          A01,185,059,615,314,000,000,000,"Untitled - Notepad"
          C01,185,059,615,314
          and these general.ini's
          Code:
          OriginalWidth=800
          OriginalHeight=600
          ShowWidth=1280
          ShowHeight=1024
          worked just fine where, using notepad of course, just for E!

          And my cmd to load it...
          Code:
          load;menu_lg.skin;;C:\windows\notepad.exe;Untitled - Notepad

            Ok, but you said that it did not embed at 800 x 600 when you tried:

            I am still willing to bet it is the way the command is formatted to run it, not the code for the skin with the embedded app "A" line. Check Blue's code above (The loading part), and replace with the path and window name you are using and give that a try to load the skin and exe.

              Sorry for the misunderstanding.
              I meant that it always works with the NATIVE 800x600 skin, but it doesn't work with the NATIVE 1280x1024 and it DOESN't work, when I scale the 1280x1024-skin down to 800x600.

              I'll try Blue's code in the following days when I find some spare time.

              Thanks guys .

                Dealing with high-res screens requires (generally) a lot of memory... however, I have not any reports that it could affect embedding... and see no reason why it should, but I can't throw away the possibility that something could be related... but I would try reducing your screenlimit setting for instance..

                  Well my guess is the application that he is hoping to embed isn't running at the time.

                  IOW the button command to launch the screen is not starting the app. (which would tie in with blue's recommendation)

                    It's definately running , i can see it . I rather guess that there's something wrong with the button command. Tomorrow I have the time to take a look .

                      Ok, I'm sorry. I got the button code wrong .
                      Have a test tomorrow, that didn't leave any concentration for skinning .
