  • Best way to launch URL direct from me

I have searched but haven't been able to find this, and from reading the command documentation, it seems like it could be down a few different ways. I want to launch Firefox and have it load www.pandora.com from a menu button in DFX4 ( or any skin ). The web command isnt documented to take any URL parameters. I have tried loading the wbrowser.skin file and using the run command too. I can get Firefox to load but it never starts on the URL I want. I basically want to replicate typing "firefox www.pandora.com" in the windows Run box, and ideally have it load in the wbrowser.skin.

    Pandora Radio Applett

I do not know of a way to launch a URL into the browser either...

    Howerver

I had been working on a Pandora radio app, that will embed it directly into the DFX skin. It is still a bit beta, but it does work well for me at least.

Make sure you use Internet Explorer, and log into your Pandora account, and then you are all set. This only has to be done once to set the cookie for the browser.

Read the Read Me.txt in the folder on where to put the file.

Here is a screen cap of it in action:

I also made another small applet for Slacker Radio, it is available HERE.

Thanks JohnWPB. There is a standalone Pandora player called Pandora's Jar. I used to use it, but found it a little unstable. I was considering launching that as an app, but this is preferred. I just installed it and it worked. Few things I noticed. The app/music does not stop when I go back to the main menu, or even when I exit Ride Runner. Many parts of the screen are blank sometimes and alt + tab and moving the mouse sometimes fixed this. Music plays fine, which is the most important part. Thanks again.

Yea, this is beta for sure... I can easily add a couple of things to it.

I could make it exit when you leave the screen, or put a "Close Pandora" button on the pandora skin.

I didn't have it close when you left the screen, as most of the time you would probably like to be able to use other things in the skin while listening to music (GPS, Scheduler, Traffic and so forth).

I agree. It should definitely stop when RR exits. Anything else would be best left to a button or a config option. Is the plugin actually going to pandora.com or did you package the swf in something self contained. It would be great to be able to communicate with the program, i.e. pause, next track, thumbs up, thumbs down. Probably not easy with flash tho. Maybe it could be done based off screen coordinates.

Thanks Enforcer! I will try it when I get home.

The Plugin, is not really a "Plugin" really. It is an autoit script that trims the Pandora web page to fit into the area in the skin. There is no real way to communicate with it from RR unfortunately.

I will add a button on the Pandora skin to close it.
