  • iTunes Tagged MP3's

Hi, I'm just starting to do some testing with RideRunner, but I have run into a problem. All my music is stored on my MacBook Pro and organized in iTunes. I use iTunes to tag the files, but when I transfer those files over to the carpc, the tags don't show up right, instead I just get the filename. I have changed the settings in rr config but they still don't show up correctly. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

I am having the same issue. It's the primary reason I gave up on RideRunner. Any solutions to this would be very helpful

I am unsure if iTunes actually saves any tag info to the MP3 files -- I believe it only updates it's own database, which basically means the files don't have the right tags. If you'd like to be sure, send me PM with the link to a sample file that you're "sure" it's properly tagged by iTunes and I can take a closer look at it.

Can you post a sample file (one that you know is tagged correctly in iTunes)?

I had/have this problems with music I've ripped from CDs using itunes. I found a way to make them work for me but it requires a little bit of work.... I tried programs like ID3-Tagit and stuff and they didn't work. What I did find that worked for me was on a Windows computer (I run XP) to right click on the file then choose Properties. In that window click the Summary tab and then in the Comments field delete anything in there. If nothing is int here just click in it then hit OK or APPLY and give it a look and see if it works. I don't know how or why it works, but it does for me.

That's a lot to ask to edit the properties of every song individually... That would take forever for larger collections. There has to be a better way (i.e. change the way RideRunner reads ID3 information).

bratnetwork's comments imply that the tag info is probably not being saved in ID3 v1.x or V2.x format, or it may be saved in the wrong place... the only way to find out is to get a sample file. RR should be fully compliant to read ID3 v1.0, v1.1, v2.2, v2.3 (most common) and even v2.4 (very rare).

I will try to post a file tonight, thanks for the replies. I think iTunes tags songs differently, when I check the tag in winamp, the ID3v1 tag is empty, and the ID3v2 tag is correct. I ask RR to prefer ID3v2 tag but they still don't work. Using winamp, I copied the ID3v2 content into the ID3v1 tab, and tell RR to prefer ID3v1, and it works. So I'm sure it's a way that RR is reading iTunes tagged files.

I just removed the tag from one of my files, went into iTunes (LATEST VERSION) and manually entered the info and saved -- to my surprise it saved an ID3 tag v2.2 which is so obsolete we had even disabled support for it in RR. I have re-enabled support for it for the new release but at least the latest version lets you right click on files and say "convert tag" and select up to v2.4 (funny enough).

EDIT: BTW, there are SEVERAL complaints on the internet exactly because iTunes defaults to ID3 v2.2 and there's no option to change the default version.

                    Thanks Guino,

When will the new RR version be available? Since I use a MacBook pro and an iPhone, iTunes is the best way to organize my music. Now if I can only get embedded album art to work..

any idea where the album art from itunes goes and how to have that show up as well? i use itunes to auto download my coverart, but most of it doesn't translate to riderunner or it just defaults to this random cover.
