  • About to Give Up with HDRadio

    I had a hard drive failure and reinstalled windows in a new drive along with RideRunner, etc. But know can not get HDRadio to work after new/fresh install.
    Here are the Specs:
    Windows 7 Professional 32 bits.
    RideRunner latest version 07-01-2010
    Radio: HDRadio Visteon HD-Zoom
    Cable: Mitch Serial Adapter
    Port: Built-in Com1 and also tested USB2Serial

    I can get the radio to work with Mitch radio app outside RR without a problem. But in RR I get the following error:

    Radio Support
    Radio not Configured
    Please run RRConfig and select the Radio you wish to use.

    I have tested with MoBo built in Serial port in Com 1 and it doesn't work on RR, however with Mitch ext app works fine.
    Also have tested with a USB2Serial and it does work with Mitch ext app but still no joy in RR.

    I have tried 3 different skins:
    DFX 4.0
    Reborn
    RR built-in Carwings Lite
    Neither one works, so the problem its coming from RR itself.

    I checked the RadioModules folder and it does have the HDRadio subfolder with the proper files:
    HDRadioComm.dll
    HDRadioRR.dll
    HDRadioRR.tlb
    MJSGAudio.dll

    Here's the rr.ini radio section:

    [Radio]
    radio=HDRadio
    allowallfreqs=true
    uselineinplugin=false
    lineinpar=line://title=Radio,srate=44100,bps=16,nch=2
    uselineinsingleinstance=false
    userbds=false
    RadioPort=7
    HDRadioType=Directed

    Please help. Thank you.

    Mike K.

    change RadioPort=7 to RadioPort=1, assuming you've put it back to com 1

      Also you need to make sure the radio .dll is registered. Go into this folder:

      \RideRunner\Plugins\MJS Gadgets\HDRadio\

      and double click "runme1st.cmd ".
      Front End of Choice: Ride Runner (Is there anything else??? ) & Powered by the DFX5.1 Skin Available in the Mobile App Mart

          Not the case I have used Radioport=1 when testing the HDradio with the built in Com1 and Radioport=7 when testing the HDradio with USB2Serial.

          Thank you anyway.

              Mitch, that's exactly the problem. I believe you have a regression in the RideRunner installer sometime between the versions February 2010 and June 2010.

              I unistalled RR version July 2010 and installed June 2010 and always with the same bad result.
              However I noticed that either version (June or July 2010) only creates ONE HDRadio folder in the entire RideRunner install, that folder contains the files that I specified on my first post:
              HDRadioComm.dll
              HDRadioRR.dll
              HDRadioRR.tlb
              MJSGAudio.dll

              I did noticed that on both last installer versions (June & July) RideRunner installer before finishing it tries to register SiriusRadio, XMradio and HDradio. However after all install completes when I check the MJS Gadgets folder there's only the 2 following folders:
              SiriusRadio
              XMradio

              So basically the required HDRadio folder does not get created with the required .dll files under MJS Gadgets.

              What I did then was to clean out one more time, uninstalled again RideRunner and I tried a installer that I had working before hard drive broke. The installer is February 2010.
              After the install completed, I have now under the MJS Gadgets folder the 3 radios:
              HDradio
              SiriusRadio
              XMradio

              Checking the files inside under MJS Gadgets\HDRadio I have the files that John pointed out:
              HDRadioComm.dll
              HDRadioComm.tlb
              RegAsm.exe
              runme1st.cmd
              UnRegMe.cmd

              Also inside of the folder RadioModules\HDRadio i have only 1 file (not those 4 previously reported):
              HDRadioRR.dll

              With this installer from February 2010 my HDRadio works perfect.

              I believe that anyone doing a fresh install will run into the same problem as I did.
              I also believe that this was not noticed because once you do an upgrade from previous working version (like February 2010) to June or July 2010 it will still work because missing files still there and .dll still properly registered under Windows.

                all that mjsgadets/hdradio is OLD OLD OLD OLD!!

                NONE OF THAT IS USED ANYMORE
                and NOT FOR MONTHS!!..

                all the newest installers, all have a clearn up code...

                but if you want, be smart, and do a UNINSTALL OF RIDERUNNER,
                then REINSTALL RIDERUNNER with 7/1/2010 installer

                these are the ONLY files used

                RideRunner/RadioModules/HDRadio/
                HDRadioComm.dll
                HDRadioRR.dll
                HDRadioRR.tlb
                MJSGAudio.dll

                if you mess with the old ones, ie try to reg them, HD Radio will not work

                UNINSTALL RideRunner, reinstall RideRunner (7/1/2010)
                -Thanks

                  mate the radios are modular..you will find all radio folders inside a folder called "RadioModules" in your RR path (program files...etc)

                    Mitch, sorry but I believe I did not explain well or something. As I mentioned on my previous post I did:

                    uninstall July 2010 completely making sure all was clean and installed it gain. NO GOOD.
                    Then
                    Unistalled July 2010 and cleaned up all and installed June 2010 - STILL NO GOOD.
                    Then
                    Uninstalled June 2010 and cleaned up all and installed February 2010. THIS ONE WORKS.
                    Then
                    Installed/Upgraded July 2010 "ON TOP" of February 2010 good working install and still works fine after July 2010 upgrade as expected/commented on my previous post.

                    Believe me, I'm not pointing anything out to you or saying anything bad about your installer. I just like to say that IMHO there's a problem with the new installer that came sometime after February 2010. That Only can be noticed if you PERFORM A FRESH INSTALL.

                      i dont think so... i just did a fresh and its fine...

                      so lets not get creative here, just do what i ask, and we debug/solve from there

                      install JULY 2010... Selecting HD Radio from the optional radio's list

                      at this point... when install complete, there should be NO hd radio directory inside mjs gadgets, and just a hdradio directory in the radio modules directory

                      now, RR.ini

                      Radio=HDRadio
                      Radioport=x x= comport
                      HDRadioType=Directed

                      now since you prob used older versions of RR CONFIG (take a look at the bottom of the rr.ini file for duplicates!!!!!)
                      not to mention HDRadioPort which is obsolete

                      since u didnt attach a rr.ini, i cant check it
                      -Thanks
