  • RR and Network hosted playlists.

I have a new setup of RR in my house using it as a music player with an in wall touchscreen. All my music in my home is stored on a server. On the RR Local machine I mapped network drives and music plays fine. The issue I have is when I create play lists and then try to play them RR starts cycling down through all the songs but not playing the as if there were missing files. What is the limitation I am running into with the music files not being stored locally in this case?

maybe more details like, skin?, player?, m3u file?

      how u creating the Playlists????!?!?!?!?!?!?!?
winamp will only save the minimum required to get the music for winamp!
so.. if u made a PL, and moved winamp or moved music... it will usually fail
so.. look at ur m3u file.. and fix it
RR will try to figure it out, but if its radically different it will fail

course if u make the PL inside RR, by adding songs manually, and saving the list... winamp will save it out
and it should be working play list as long as nothing moves...
one of the strange things that winamp does!!

I apologize, my PC got a corrupt Boot Manager and I am just able to get back on. I am using RR 5/1/11 with DFX5 on WIN7 32bit. This is my first go with RR and Win 7, In the car I use Xp but in this indoor use of RR I am not using anything other than music, so figured maybe I wouldn't have any issues. I tried creating the play lists both in Winamp (latest version) and in RR. They are .m3u files. I have tried saving the m3u to both a local folder and a network folder and same issues arise. RR cannot seem to load the play list when the Files themselves are stored on a network dirve.

like i said... take a look at the m3u file...

its not RR that cant find the music... its winamp
(yes to some extent rr wont find it to get tags)

but with out any real details of the m3u file and your file system, its all abstract and no one can solve your issue
          but you

also it has to be a mapped drive

          like M:

---------- Post added at 06:00 PM ---------- Previous post was at 05:59 PM ----------

if u moved the music... the m3u file is basically invalid now

---------- Post added at 06:00 PM ---------- Previous post was at 06:00 PM ----------

just one problem with winamp and its m3u's

It is a mapped drive and is exactly M. File system is just network storage with typical folder structure. Artists/Album/Song etc..Im not liking the whole WIN 7 and RR experience right now. Might have to slap XP on the machine and start over. Lots of issues, mostly between the skin though. Also, SKIN folder is not located within RideRunner main directory. Is it an change in RR or did something happen there?

              ugh!

why do u keep avoiding what im telling you!

LOOK at the CONTENTS of the m3u file, open it in a text editor

hell, if i knew what its contents was i could help, but i dont, cause your keeping that to your self

ps... there are NO KNOWN issues with RR and WIN7
my suggestion, is UAC off in the carpc... home pc... uac on (unless your good with pcs, and know what ur doing, which i assume you do, then UAC off is fine)

---------- Post added at 06:24 PM ---------- Previous post was at 06:19 PM ----------

              ill post my own example...

              inside m3u

              \MyMusic\Rush\2112\2112.mp3

ok, with that winamp says the song must be on the SAME drive a me (me = winamp.exe)
              winamp installed at C:\Program Files\Winamp\Winamp.exe

so the song must be at

              C:\MyMusic\Rush\2112\2112.mp3

well.. if its in M: as in M:\MyMusic\Rush\2112\2112.mp3

clearly winamp isnt going to find it, yet alone anything... its HOW WINAMP WORKS!!!
i dont like it, but thats how the winamp people chose to do it

to fix add the full path in the m3u

              M:\MyMusic\Rush\2112\2112.mp3

or REMAKE EVERYONE OF YOU M3Us (daunting task) course i dont use playlists so to me no biggy
              -Thanks

                UAC is off.

Here is a snip of one of the M3U's
                --------------------------------------------------------

                #EXTM3U
#EXTINF:201,Dierks Bentley - Free And Easy (Down The Road I Go)
                \\DOUGSERVER\Networked Music\Dierks Bentley\Greatest Hits - Every Mile A Memory\01-dierks_bentley-free_and_easy_(down_the_road_i_go).mp3
#EXTINF:222,Dierks Bentley - Trying To Stop Your Leaving
                \\DOUGSERVER\Networked Music\Dierks Bentley\Greatest Hits - Every Mile A Memory\02-dierks_bentley-trying_to_stop_your_leaving.mp3
                #EXTINF:289,Dierks Bentley - Sweet & Wild
                \\DOUGSERVER\Networked Music\Dierks Bentley\Greatest Hits - Every Mile A Memory\03-dierks_bentley-sweet_and_wild.mp3
                #EXTINF:282,Dierks Bentley - Come A Little Closer
                \\DOUGSERVER\Networked Music\Dierks Bentley\Greatest Hits - Every Mile A Memory\04-dierks_bentley-come_a_little_closer.mp3
                #EXTINF:228,Dierks Bentley - How Am I Doin'

I really think my issue now is Winamp related. I don't know why but through trying to diagnose an issue, upon returning to winamp all media from the library is gone. I must have network issues. I know the PC has full read/write access to the server but something is wrong there. I'll be moving in that direction now. Thanks a lot!

                  1) Those are UNC paths, not mapped drive paths. so even if the drive is shared, its still trying to access the server via the network route, not your mapped drive. You need to delete the \\DOUGSERVER from each line, and replace it with M: which is dead easy to do in notepad, just to a search/replace, use the find field as \\DOUGSERVER, and the replace with as M:. Should clear up that issue, and convert them over to using the mapped drive.

                  2) You have spaces in all those directories, try having " marks at the start and end of each filename, its possible that its only looking for a file called (In the example above):

                  \\DOUGSERVER\Networked

And getting lost there. Try it with " marks, so it looks like:

                  "\\DOUGSERVER\Networked Music\Dierks Bentley\Greatest Hits - Every Mile A Memory\03-dierks_bentley-sweet_and_wild.mp3"

So copy the m3u file so you have a backup, trim everything bar about 3 or 4 files out of it (makes it easier to test with), and try the above two changes, see how you go. If it works, then do the same to the full length m3u file.

                    correct.. not mapped drive...

                    " not gonna help you
dont use them, they are not part of the m3u format

if M is mapped to \\DOUGSERVER\Networked Music

                    then its

                    M:\Dierks Bentley\Greatest Hits - Every Mile A Memory\03-dierks_bentley-sweet_and_wild.mp3

I realize this guys, that was a bad sample to post. That was the original M3U I have for my other winamp instance on another PC. I was posting to show structure, wasn't clear what you were looking for in that. The m3U's I am having issues with are of a Mapped Network drive and not a server domain over the network. I created the playlist in winamp by adding my desired tracks to the que and saving the list. Again, haven't ever really made a playlist any other way. I also tried doing it through RR and saving it but still came up with issues.

                      This is the actual:

                      #EXTINF:368,O.A.R. - Dareh Meyod
                      M:\O.A.R_\34th & 8th Disc 1\O.A.R - 01 - Dareh Meyod.mp3
                      #EXTINF:405,O.A.R. - About Mr. Brown
                      M:\O.A.R_\34th & 8th Disc 1\O.A.R - 02 - About Mr. Brown.mp3

My new winamp instance was some how corrupt. Still had issues with playlists. Winamp alone had no issue loading and playing but RR/Carwings/DFX did. It would load, cycle the titles, but not find the files. I made sure m3u is in the RRconfig extensions. To avoid headaches but give up a little convenience I moved my music to the local disk of the PC in question and all is well. I appreciate the help and responses. Maybe if I get a little more patience down the road I'll find what the exact issue here was.

Oh boy...I really hope and doubt I am telling you RR cannot find what you say. In fact, after placing music localy, and creating a play list, I ran into the same issue. So I don't believe it being over the mapped drive is my issue now. This baffles me. I have never had an issue of this sort on my XP machine in the car for over 5 years. The worst is over though. For whatever reason who knows RR in the music browser is able to load and play the playlist's just fine now. God only knows what I did or what it was. Only issue now is with RRmedia "Virtual CD player". If I send a playlist to disk, when I try to load it, same thing, no found files and cycles the names, no music. That's for another day. Thanks again, very much.
