  • How many people have or plan to have a dual screen RR setup?

I'm seriously contemplating installing two USB monitors into the back of my front seats for my kids. Having recently switched back to RR in my car, i'm considering my options on using it in multi-screen. Now i know that in order for it to work i'll have to do my own custom skins, then set my rear monitors to extend the desktop, but has anyone further delve into the multi-screen hurdles with RR to this point? I know only one application window is allowed per .skin file, and i know i can run multiple RR instances (but i personally dont want to, i want to have the ability to control the rear from the front). So basically i created this thread to ask the following:

    1. Who has RR controlling their multi-screen setup?
    2. What limitations have you encountered
    3. Any others from the developers on the matter?

I wonder if a plugin could be created to assist in the screen embedding limitation...

I have two VGA monitors in the back of my headrests.

I was originally using one PC but have given up on that idea and am no going to put a second PC in for the two hearest monitors.

I have the basics of a Server/Client plugin which will allow the two PC's to speak to each other (mainly I can control the BAck PC from the front PC.)

However I have yet to get to the point of putting the second PC in.

      Hi Sonic,

I also am thinking of dual rear monitors in the headrests but not from RR.
My plan is to have them as stand-alone all-in-one game/DVD players which have audio/video aux input and make my own switching box for routing the audio/video from the front RR to either or both rear units and also allow the rears to share audio/video.
The reason for this is that it allows the rear passengers to choose their own movie to watch with headphones if they wish separate to the partner in the front. Otherwise I see the mutiple screen RR thing getting way too involved with triple-zone audio as well.
The only drawback I see is when using navigation...it would interupt audio occasionally for the rear passengers when sharing the front movie and I could not do anything else while the movie was on, but I doubt this would be an issue on a long trip when the navigation would probably not be needed with a movie playing.

        Hi fella,

I used to run dual monitors (well triple as two headrests). As you say you need to do an extended desktop setup.. ie 1600 x 600 res. Unsure if RR can do what FreeICE can and have everything on the screen at once but you might need to do multiple screens dependant what you want displayed on the 800,0,800,600 screen. I'd be more than happy to show you how on FI.. it's been that long since I coded anything in RR to be honest I don't know what's changed.

I have dual screens in the rear that run movies and music for the kids all controlled from my front touchscreen running RR. I do it using my RRvlc plugin.

awesome this is exactly what i'm looking for. I'll have to download RRVLC and give it a go. All i really want is movies, music, and my gamestation plugin (which already supports multi-screen)
