  • Instant FM Music RDX-155 Working in Ride Runner - Australia

    Hi All,

To confirm InstantFM Music by ADS Tech (RDX-155) works out of the box in RR.

Cheap cost me about $19 posted.

Still to test in the car with an aftermarket antenna connected. Will update.

Reception is Very Very good so far running on the laptop with the factory antenna given by ADS Tech. Picks up all the stations my other radio has troubles with.

P.s. some configuration changes were needed in Windows 7 under sound to get it working. By default it was disabled and output to wrong speakers were selected.

    Hi Bob,
Interested to see where you bought this from? Haven't been able to find a cheap receiver for FM that's guaranteed to work on modern systems!
If you can could you PM me a link?
    Thanks,
    Shambler

cool, your going to probably need to solder your car antenna inside the unit. I am couple of weeks away till I have it running in the car to update.

p.s. its also works with centrafuse out of the box

Hmm. Might try an adapter first, really not keen on the idea of modifying my car in any way! Last car pc I did I put it all back to stock when I sold the car!

you can give it ago but might have trouble with reception. Aluminum foil over the unit and cable where it joins will help sometimes.

              Excellent, thanks for the tip!

I'll see how I go, if it proves to be too difficult I won't use it, it's only $15 or so!

I've got my InstantFM device connected, I went into RRConfig and set the Radio to Silabs and then ran RR but when I click on Radio, I get a "Radio not Configured" message. I did not load any software from the ADSTech CD. The FM device is correctly listed my my Windows Device Manager - the driver auto installed.

                Anyone any ideas ?

                Thanks in advance

EDIT: I am currently testing everything on my Win7 Laptop and it appears that InstantFM will only run on XP or Vista

Did you install the silabs radio plugin when installing RR ? (Otherwise you're likely going to get that error). You can just install it by re-running the installer if you want.
If anything enable debug in RRConfig and post a copy of your debug.txt file so we can see what's going on.

I tried re-running the RideRunnerSetup.exe but there is no option to install Radio. I have downloaded the USBRadio.dll file but how do I install it manually ? I can't find anything really relevant in other posts.

                    Thanks

Where RideRunnerSetup.exe asks you to select components, Silabs Radio is the second item on the list. Make sure it is checked.
Are you installing the latest version 10/1/2012 of RideRunner ?

Did anyone end up running this with an external or aftermarket antenna? I haven't put the CarPC in the car yet, but the reception with the included ADS Tech antenna is almost non existed around our house.

                        Cheers,

Thanks RevheadKev, I went on to the second setup screen and saw the SiLabs option there - Installed and stick working now ........

                          but .......

while scanning is picking up stations, playing a station, I don't get any sound but yet I have the clicking when I click any screen button. Any suggestions ?

I had it hooked up to my vehicle's antenna. Reception was a bit better but by no means as good as the visteon/Directed unit. SNO

@chamionc - Does the sound work with the standard Silabs FM player ?
