  • Exception in DeserializeFromINI() Box - Can't open RR config

so...this just started popping up after I tried to reinstall RR in regular mode instead of profile mode on windows 7. Google search turns up 4 results which mean nothing to me.

I've tried full uninstall and manually removing reg keys and folders, rebooting, and then reinstalling. Same error. This box pops up as soon as I open rrconfig and doesn't let me in. D'oh!

on windows 7 with UAC ON applications are not allowed to write into program files folder...
you might be the 1st person and ONLY who is running this way... why i dont know... just go profile
or if this is the carpc...who needs UAC anyway..turn that off... desktop pc, ok keep it on, but go profile...
      RR will ask for elevation

id love to see the stack trace so i can fix the bug...since i dont think it should happen, till you save

I tried to go back to profile mode, but it still needs admin rights. Not a big deal...i'll just set the permissions for that file.

yes you do need admin rights... cause your violating UAC rules...and writing to Program Files folders, the 1st thing RRConfig does, is backup your rr.ini
          so that will faill

something isnt right, when you "go back" to profile mode how are u doing that, without a complete uninstall / DELETE FILES
but the right way is use the TOOL, i published months ago to move legacy to profile... its in the forum
(after using it, just review rr root folder, no .ini should should remain, other than media player classic and mpc-hc)

i will add manifest to rrconfig, to request elevation...
my advice is run in profile mode

Short term work around I do on my testing box is right click on the shortcut I use to launch RR, click on compatibility tab and select "Run this program as an administrator"

Now it will ask every time you launch the program but it will work right.

Alternatively you could probably change permissions on the program files directory but if you are going to do that... just disable UAC.

Edit: or you could just change permissions on the ride runner directory...

the proper way, is run as administator... BUT you know, if you were properly in PROFILE mode, it wouldn't need you to do anything....
(RR will ask for elevated rights, since it does a few trick things that are protected in vista/win7)
