  • With Iguidance no longer, has anyone embeded Copilot Live 8?

I read the "how to embed a GPS program" there is no mention of copilot Live 8. I ran out and purchased it since IGuidance will no longer be updated/upgraded. Has anyone successfully embeded Copilot Version 8 with RideRunner? It seems to not like window resizing, I have an email into support, hopefully there is a command line switch or something. Some other person mentioned it in 2011 but it was left up in the air.

I confirmed with Copilot last week that you can not resize the window. On another note, the map coverage is horrible in Canada, atleast in my area. I was not able to test the software until I put the carputer back in the car after storage for the winter. The Copilot Canada map does not have my street. I am going back to IGuidance, the map is still current and way more detailed. Also, although I did not spend a lot of time the map font is too small for a 7 inch monitor, perhaps there is some way to compensate, but did not see it.

CoPilot Live V8 embeds fine for me but it is almost impossible to automate with VR or with any kind of automation
as they do all of their own GUI and to SPY it appears as one big window with no controls.

You're basically limited to using screen coordinates and writing some kind of "Click" routine but that doesn't always work because the flow is not that consistent and you can't find out what is being displayed and where things are.

I found their Tech Support to be less that satisfactory and a little arrogant.

I switched to Sygic primarily because there is a fairly complete SDK available, although a little pricy. They use the Navteq maps and they have pretty much world-wide coverage.

The GUI is intended for small screens, the flow it fairly good, and you can navigate using the SDK if you wish.

Functionally as good as any system I have tried (none are perfect), good sounding TTS but a little sparse as far as content is concerned, and with the SDK , VR or button navigation is fairly easy although there is little reason for the latter.

There is also a Truck option, part of which can come in handy for RVs to cause vehicle dimensions/weight to be routing algorithms.. They don't have as extensive routing options as CoPilot but that is on the way.

The POI "database" is better than CoPilot and easy to use to find things.

I found their routing algorithms to be very sensitive to coordinates from external sources and that can cause U-turns to be built into the route. If you use their itinerary planning and avoid your own coordinates, it works great.

          Regards,
          Jim

Thanks for the input obrienj, I will give Sygic a try towards the end of summer, sounds like a much better solution. I wanted to use CoPilot as a second GPS application to start off with as IGuidance has a very good GUI but not so good POI.

I created a button pointing to the same skin as IGuidance and renamed it copilot.skin with this command. "Load;copilot.skin||Run;C:\Program Files\Alk Technologies\CoPilot Live v8 Laptop\App\copilot.exe;co pilot Wndcls" The application area in the skin is smaller than Copilots program.

Without it capable of resizing, how did you get it to embed?

I used the following in the skin:

              Code:
              A01,0,0,800,550
              C01,0,0,800,550
and this alternative worked just as well:

              Code:
              AX,0,0,800,550,"OPT_NOFOCUS,OPT_PARENT"
Note that I build all of my skins 800x600 and use general.ini to set the display size. All of this works fine with CoPilot.

For the navigation button, I override "GPS" in Exec.ini with this:

              Code:
              "GPS","LOAD;external_gps.skin;;C:\Program Files (x86)\Alk Technologies\CoPilot Live v8 Laptop\App\copilot.exe;CoPilot"
I would call your attention to the window title CoPilot" which is the last parameter, "co pilot Wndcls" which you used is not the window title.

              Regards,
              Jim

                  Jim,

I was able to embed copilot and got it to fit in my application window but it looks like Copilot is scaling to fit in that window. In other words, the copilot display is vertically compressed. You can tell that the pixel ratio is not 1:1. It appears that copilot detects the native Windows resolution, then RideRunner is compressing it into the window I defined. Is there any way to treat the Riderunner defined application window as the system resolution?

                  Thanks,
                  Strider
