  • Trouble playing videos and DVD's in RR

OK, I'm using Win7 64 bit and RR 2/5/12. I'm in Carwings. I've got mpc-hc.1.6.1.4114_x64. I have rr.ini set up to use mpc-hc for both Video and DVD. I think I was following some instructions somwhere that said to just get the executable. When I first tried to run it, it said I was missing some runtime component. I downloaded and installed that and now outside of RR it appears to work. But in RR, it only plays what I was playing last. I have a video open and I hear it playing, but I actually don't see anything unless I go to DVD. I'm totally lost here. I have a physical disc in the DVD drive, and I can't play it at all in RR. Can anyone help? What can I post here to help?

install the 32bit version of mpc-hc
    rr is 32 bit

what i do.. is just copy mpc-hc.exe to rr root folder...so rr has its OWN copy, and doesnt affect how you use MPC-HC outside of rr, you can even use the x64 if you want outside of RR

now your DVD, you got it all configured right?

OK, I downloaded the 32bit version. I did not do any install, I just got the .exe.

OK, how do I attach an image like you did?

Anyway, my rrconfig looks like your page you sent me. I put a copy of the 32bit media player classic - home theater at path C:\Program Files (x86)\RideRunner\mpc-hc.exe.

My Physical drive it at E.

I'm not sure I understand the "DVD Folders Path", and the ISO settings, and what they are for. I don't use Daemon tools or anything like that. If I want ot play a video, it'll most likely be an .mpg. I can't see myself saving any ISO images on this PC.

After doing that I hit "save and restart RR". When I clicked DVD it brought up a screen and I saw the MPC-hc splash. When I clicked play, it started playing an .mpg video that I was playing last night. So I right-clicked on the screen and told it to play the DVD and pointed it at E. That would be tough on a touchscreen , as I used the mouse to do this. The next thing I noticed was that it starrted playing the DVD at a spot that I was playing it at last week, which I suppose is understandable. So I hit title menu and root menu, and I see the the aspect ratio is wrong, the top and bottom of the screen is cut off. When it started playing I got a green +4:3 in the upper left corner. I have the screen set to 16:9.

Edit: I think the path did not get saved properly when I was in RRConfig. I hit "Save and Restart RR", but when I looked at rr.ini, the path was the old path. I closed rr.ini and went back to RRConfig, the path was right, I hit save, then looked at rr.ini again and it was correct. Now the DVD's play OK ecxcept for the aspect ratio. The videos also play, execpt for the aspect ratio and the video starts over every time I hit Video.

I'm most likely going to get myself a xenarc screen soon. I am looking at the 700TSH. From what I can tell, I should probably run it at 800x480. I believe I have RR set up to that resolution now. RR appears in the upper left corner of my screen when I start it, but for right now I am on a desktop monitor set to resolution 1920x1080.

id disable the zoom feature, i hate out of aspect videos....

also i have NO idea what "clicked play" means...

oh, dont do any Right clicking, well you can but then you talking to MPC-HC itself, its just embedded into RR
with RR talking to it via its message API
normal operation, is do nothing with right clicks (you dont even have them on a touch screen, persay)

I assume you are testing with carwings skin...

            Up late I see...

Yes, I'm in carwings...I can read your sig, and I've read enough posts that if you have a prob...test in Carwings first.

I failed to see that you had checked "Disable zoom in player". I'll have to try that.

Since I was going to try and use DFX, I had gone into the skin and gotten rid of the "Browse" button on the DVD screen, and made it into an "aspect ratio" button.

So I checked the "disable zoom in player" in RRConfig and the DVD started playing in "Full".

I think I'll also stop using the "Save and restart RR" button. I'll do a "save", then "Start RR".

In carwings, on the DVD screen, when i click "Root Menu" It appears to be the title menu, and when I click "Title Menu" it brings up the main menu. I'll try it with another disk. OK, tried another disk, so far so good, it acts as it should.

You always make things seem so easy.....I can fiddle with this for hours, and you say, check this box or set this path, and Voila', it works!

While we are here, can you please explain, (if possible), the "DVD Folders path" setting? I think I'm clear on the ISO Settings. I'm guessing that those are for something like Daemon tools, where you can save disk ISO images and mount and play them.

Really the only reason I see myself going with DFX is I like the size of the buttons, I like the compass on the main menu, and I like the gauges screen. Of course, this is not in the car yet. I need a screen, but testing in the house, so far so good.

Thanks again for the help Mitch. You are "The Man" on here for RR!

the menus, are really to the DVD, not all DVD's have title and root menus

dvd folders path, is a path where you would have dvds saved, that arnt physical dvds

like in that path you can have

              StarWars\Episode V\Video_TS....

or smarter yet, iso files, and use and iso mounter, the one i use is free and works great
              Vitrual Clone Drive

              Starwars\Episode V\StarWars - A New Hope.iso
              -Thanks
