  • Bluetooth Hands Free Calling

Hey, I've got a question for RR devs and users. For hands free calling, what do you use for bluetooth driver support (which stack is used)? I am trying to get hands free calling integrated into another windows based front end and have been limited by BlueSoleil drivers. Is there any other Bluetooth solution out there that will support hands free calling? Thanks for any support that you can provide.

To clarify, I am just trying to figure out what would be the best software to use with any given bluetooth dongle out there on average. Hands free calling does not seem to work with any other bluetooth stack but I am finding it hard to believe that this is correct. Since RR is very popular, I figured someone out there must know how to get hands free calling to work. Thanks again.

There's not a lot of news on that front (not yet). For RR there used to be an application for PhoneControl which required the Widcomm Bluetooth stack. There is currently a plugin which uses Bluesoleil (same limitations you probably know). For phones which support GSM commands (i.e. SonyEricsson) and have some sort of serial port connection (cable or Bluetooth) you can use "freefone" which is old and has no way to route audio thru the PC.

The best solution would have to be hardware based to deal with audio, connection and basically mimic what you see in many car stereos today (and even that may still be limited to whatever compatibilities issues there may be between phones and such). I'm saying this specifically because I have tried a few different hardware bluetooth devices and there are still limitations with the way certain phones communicate and which features they support. Chances are you'd have no problem with mainstream phones (i.e. iPhones and SonyEricsson generally have good connectivity), while Android and Blackberry phones can be plain awful with connectivity (as far as providing interface for polling contacts, call control, etc). Still having a solution that works perfect with a good number of phones is better than having little to no support in most phones.

The best solution I have found until now was to use a good car kit (actually I am still using an EGO FLASH car kit) to route the audio and the now obsolete phonecontrol application (over a serial bluetooth connection using a BT-122 stack which is using the Widcomm drivers) to route the data to my car PC so that I can have a phonebook, phone number pad, dialpad and a popup window would come up when receiving a phone call. That was fine until I changed from a Sony Ericsson K770i to Sony Ericsson Xperia Neo V as the latter does not have the Bluetooth Serial Port Profile so it could not communicate with phonecontrol.

A few days ago I found in Google PLay this android application https://play.google.com/store/apps/d...G9uZVRyaWFsIl0. which incorporates a relevant windows application (named CallCenter) to provide one with a basic phonebook, call history and popup window for incoming calls so that one can accept or reject the call. I have tested the application with a Bluesoleil stack but it does not seem to work, so apparently a Widcomm driven stack is needed.

I have tested this application on my car PC and it works with my EGO FLASH and BT-122 Widcomm stack. My problem now is that I cannot embed it in RR as it runs in the notification tray (system tray) of windows so I have to click its icon to make it popup and embed and will not close with regular RR commands (it will close only by right clicking its icon in the system tray and choosing exit).

      Hope the above of interest.

not trying to hijack the thread, but i have been working with "CallCenter", and i have a 90% working plugin for FreeICE, and was thinking in doing a RR vesion soon, as for the moment, everything what callcenter offers is available on the plugin, phonebook, phone controls, speaker, mic, call log, sms. as soon as the FreeICE plugin is released, is very likely a RR version will be next. have a look to this thread.

I searched but couldn't find an app out there like Call Center, I was going to learn to make android apps just so I could make an app like that for hands free calling for RR. Guess someone beat me to it (well the app part anyways). But that's exactly what I wanted, you should make a RR version!

for sure a RR version will be done soon, as soon as i finish some work that needs to be done. i dont think it will take much to port to RR, the way is coded, makes it really easy to do a RR pi, i will need some help for the skinning, as i dont have the time to do a test skin, will see by then...

            here are some screencaps.

Oh please!!! This would keep me on a PC platform (versus tablet) for the foreseeable future.
TruckPC - gutted, being used for test setup
BoatPC - All in 1 in cuddy, N7 using VNC on dash, RR
              BlazerPC - Nexus 7 with Timur's USBROM

Having the phone work without using my Parrot would finally completely "connect the dots" for my install. I will be watching with anticipation as well!!

this uses microsoft or widcomm stack.

for the people interested in this, the RR plugin is 90% done, need some help with the skinning, using SkinTool seems to work ok, anyone willing to do some carwings skinning for this?.

oh and a little FYI, the android app isnt free, but isnt that expensive either...

yes this is for android users only, someone said he found an android app, he was trying to embed the PC client GUI, so i told him, that i have a plugin in the works instead of embeding the GUI a PI is way better, i know the limitations on microsoft stack, but this is using a server client link between android and pc using bt or wifi.

BT module for car here :
                              http://www.modulestek.com/prodts/Wir...MBC05-CAR.html

It uses AT command so it could be as simple as adding a supply and Serial-TTL converter for the basic functionality.

                              Project here in Russian :
                              http://pccar.ru/showthread.php?t=17954

Ill probably work on my own vesion once I have more free time, but if there is a software based solution then its probably not worth looking into. Must have echo/noise cancel and be able to pull the phone book.
