  • Please help with unicode playlist

    Hi All,

    I have been having this problem since I upgrade to the latest version of both RR and Winamp in June. I have about 500+ songs in my collection but about 70% of them are Chinese songs. All the ID3v2 tags inside them are written in unicode. Since the June release I found that after RR is loaded the song titles suddenly all become ????? except those English songs with English titles, with name of the artists and album arts not displaying. I then clear the playlist and reload it by selecting a mp3 file in my "Music" root directory. It displays every information again. However after the next restart or several restarts of the CarPC the problem is back. The problem persists even I update RR to August release.

    I tried reinstalling both RR and Winamp and also change the settings with tips found in this forum. I also test it with CARWINGS dynamic lite skins. I hope if anyone can help me. Thank you.

    Cheers,

      Over the past 2 weeks I have been trying different approach to hopefully fix the problem: Re-install Winamp from version 5.623 to the latest 5.65, review and change all the settings that related to unicode tags in Winamp, redo all the ID3 tags in my song collections, etc.

      The problem is still not solved. I try just running Winamp and start playing songs, then reboot the system and run winamp again for no less than 10 times. All the songs are still listed with the right info and still able to play randomly. However when I do the same trial in RR, after 5 or 6 reboots the song tags all become ??????, the album art is lost, and keep on skipping to next songs it attempt to find. (I am always running shuffle mode in RR). I hope you can take a good look on the coding if any bug in it. Thank you.

      Cheers,

        2 debug text file as attached. I hope someone can point me out what went wrong. I rebooted the system 3 times and was working until the 4th one. No config change were made between these reboots. Thank you.

          nothing will be of use in debug.txt

          i don't know what reboot has to do with anything, just try starting rr, and exiting rr
          when you exit

          take a look at RRPL.m3u8 that is the cached playlist

            I did spot a line that is different between these 2 debug.txt:

            Before Problem occurs:

            11:32:11.676: Winamp AudPlayer---> winamp.exe started: v20581
            11:32:11.676: PLAYER: Started
            11:32:11.801: PLAYER: Winamp Version: 5.65

            After:

            11:51:54.824: Winamp AudPlayer---> winamp.exe started: v0
            11:51:54.824: PLAYER: Started
            11:51:54.824: PLAYER: Winamp Version:

            I don't understand what "v20581" means but all the debug,txt from successful run returns the same value; while the failed run return v0 and no Winamp version number shown. I did try to open the rrpl.m3u8 before but it only prompt me to choose the folder.

              Hi Mitch,

              I just open rrpl.m3u8 after a failed run in RR as per your instruction. Winamp runs but it keep jumping to the next songs without playing them. The song titles are mostly ?????? except some English ones. I have followed Winamp's instruction dealing with unicode playlist before. Please kindly let me know if there's anything wrong about the playlist. Thank you.

                that

                11:51:54.824: Winamp AudPlayer---> winamp.exe started: v0
                11:51:54.824: PLAYER: Started
                11:51:54.824: PLAYER: Winamp Version:

                isn't good

                sure sounds like your RRPL is corrupt, as winamp cant find your files, that's why it jumps through

                but that stuff where it isn't reporting the version is prob bad, and may lead to corrupt rrpl, as the rrpl is pulled from winamp

                try foobar2k

                I have no idea what your problem exactly is...
                -Thanks

                      Thank you Mitch for your advice and that's how I finally solve the problem! It turns out the Geforce Experience program in the latest Nvidia driver (I use ION chipset motherboard) eats up most of my 2GB system memory, causing Winamp to crash.

                      I followed your advice and restart rr without reboot and no problem exists. That makes me wonder if any startup program causing the issue. No messed up playlist ever after I uninstall the Geforce program, which is useless to my system, but keep the driver.

                      Cheers,
                      Jguy

                        I removed it as per your instruction during testing. Just curious what is it for? Would it be removed in next RR version?

                          Hi All,

                          Sorry for re-opening a long lost thread but my problem with unicode playlist in RR came back again. This time I make sure no other unnecessary software running in the background that eat my memory. I have tried different settings over and over again and it comes down to this result:

                          1/ If I select Winamp 5.666 build 3516 as my MP3 Player, the Id3v2 unicode song names all became ?????? in RR after 1 or 2 reboots. I am guessing RR is getting id3v1 info instead of v2 from Winamp during startup. However it's no problem in Winamp's own playlist.

                          2/ Windows Media player have no such problem no matter how many times I reboot, but it cannot pause a song and always restart the current song after I pause it. Also I have RadioShark that needs Winamp's line-in plugin to listen to radio.

                          Please if anyone can help. Thank you.

                            Have you tried VLC? Not sure if it works with RR but VLC seems to be widely used.

                              there are options for how RR gets tags, also RR can optionally have winamp provide the tag
                              (I usually turn that off [its tricky how, its been talked about years ago], and have RR get it, preferring v2 over v1)

                              I use foobar 2k
