  • I'm having a brainfart figuring out Roadrunner

I am not that stupid but I am a little ignorant when it comes to terms like "source code" and "bianary only" and "install shield version". Road runner looks like it will do what I want but I am a little lost on what it actually does and how to download it and make it work. Can you make some "Roadrunner download and install for dummies" instructions so I can get it up and running because I am done with Mediacar. Thanks in advance!

Just download and run the installshield version for now, the binary only allows updates to the software when they are released, I think Bry has updated the installshield to the latest version today.

For initial installation, download and install the intallshield version and you are set to go.

Future update, download the binary version and unzip it to RR installation directory and overwrite all the files.

Source code, well that if you want to play with the code and modify to your like if the binary doesn't do what you like.

        Matrix,
You can also download the Install every time, if you have High Speed of course. This will automatically update any of the changes that Guino has put in.

I seem to be updating quite alot since he puts new stuff out every few days.

This seems to really be helping the newbies, I think.

Cool, thanks for the info! I was able to get RR installed and operational. I am using winamp for audio and that works fine. A scroll bar would be nice for mp3's but otherwise no problems. Mabye one of the playlist arrow keys could be adjusted to "ludicrous speed" after holding it down for 2 seconds? Anyway, dvd's are working but I can not seem to disable the status bar across the bottom that shows where you are in the movie. I unclick it and then the next time I use mediaplayer its back like a bad habbit. Also, how do I get rid of the spinning GMC logo! My friends will laugh me out of my Supra if they see that LOL. I saw a post with a spinning Toyota logo but how do I get that in my RR skin?

Unpack the zip and re-name toyota.swf to logo.swf and replace the one in the skin folder. Re-boot RR and you should have the logo you require.

If you use either the Alpine skin or the BrushMetal skin (the updated ones), they both offer a song slider (scroll bar) that lets you "jump" directly into any position within the song -- so that "ludicrous speed" is not so necessary. The feature is there, you just need the right skins..

Ok, I understand what you are refering to but I don't think I described what I was talking about good enough. The scroll bar I would like is to go down the playlist (which is 2500 songs) at a faster speed. For me to go from A to Z would take a long time right now.

The status bar I can't disable is when I play a dvd movie, RR plays the movie in fullscreen with a gray bar across the bottom. It is a slider to go to a different spot in the movie and I can't permanently disable it. Another thing I can't disable is the freakin subtitles on the first 2 Matrix movies. The movie menu shows it as off and I turn it off in RR and it is still there.

I am very greatfull for the free software and the help too. I like it a lot!

Try updating to version 2-23 for the seekbar bug on DVD mode. The subtitle issue, you should open MPC outside RR and disable the subtitle support (or use a different video overlay method).

For your huge playlist of files, all I can say is that I'll add keyboard support soon. Also, ther current speed of the scroll (PgDown) button is only limited byt your CPU/Hard drive as it must read all tags for each page you go down to.. other than that it goes 10 pages per second, of about 25 items per page, which should get you through your entire list in about 10 seconds (roughly) -- using ID3 Tags will definitely slow down this rate.
