  • Timetrax XM and Sirrus USB PC PCR control

The software to control this neat little box that can record off of Satellite radio and the like. The link for the trial version of the software can be found at http://www.timetraxtech.com/tt_download_index.asp This is handy for those who may wish to see if this can be imbedded or added to RR functionality. While the download page says XM a Sirius version is expected to be instock soon

This little product is the only one so far that will support Sirius to PC connection as well as allowing the use of existing PCR's for sirius

I have all the protocol specs for serius hardware -- I just don't have the hardware.. but it should be fairly simply to add support for it (muxh like the XM support in RR)... I do not intend to make any support for recording/timeshift in RR.. You should be able to embed timetrax in RR and I was under the impression somebody has done that in the past..

Can you can you??!? I have been holding off buying Sirius hardware until someone implements it - I would LOVE to see it in road runner!

If I had the hardware and appropriate cable I'd definitely work on it.. also, making the cable can get tricky ..

Sure... I actually know very little compared to what I don't know (don't we all?)... there's just very little that I woudn't want to know...

What precisely do you need. A PCR? there are a few out there depending which head unit you wish to interface to. (Jvc, Pioneer, etc.)

                A din to USB cable?

Please be more specific what HW you need for your development use.

That's why I said that getting the cable done can be tricky.. the posted cable pins are for the SC-FM1 (FM tuner based)... but that receiver costs some $170 bucks -- much to high... in theory, we could get any "PCR" type receiver and make a cable for it -- but we'd need to figure out the connection... basically we need:

-A cable for connection to the PC: Serial or USB -- If USB, I'd need some API/SDK or documentation to talk to it (and may be drivers). This cable should also power the receiver.
-A Receiver unit that can connect to the cable above and antenna.

I know the above can be derived from the SC-FM1 but some research would be needed for any other receivers (the cheaper ones). I do know there's some people working on this.. if we could get in touch with them to provide what we need, I'd gladly work on the software portion..

we have Sirius PCR kits here we have them for JVC and Pioneer. I need to know what you need because we may be able to supply you with a unit for development purposes.

These units are made to interface with the Bus on Pioneer and JVC Sirius ready head units. and come with a DIN to head unit adaptor cable. I am not referencing those little protable Sirius recievers that use a RF modulator connection to the head unit.

Well, this is not as simple as the XMD interface to the PC.. the sirius receivers use inverted serial levels which will likely require some type of circuit/interface board on the cable to perform conversion to normal rs232 signaling.. I know there are some poeple that have done that... I also know that it should be possible to use any of the PCR kits, but it is more than likely that they'll have to be opened up to at least look at the appropriate pinouts... if it's hard to find the correct plug for the cable, then it may be necessary to solder the cable/interface onto the sirius box... this really isn't the kind of project that I could simply borrow the hardware and return when done... honestly, I wouldn't even try doing this myself without any help... I do know somebody very good with electronics that could put this together but the best bet would be to talk to somebody who has made such rs232 "adapter/cable" to interface with the PC... I know I can built the software pretty much the same as for the existing XM functionality, but I am not planning on doing any hardware work anytime soon...

So we just need to get you one of the PCR units with a RS232 converter. That is a very easy thing to build. I was going to buy one tomorrow to play with anyways. If I can get a TTL to RS-232 converter built and functioning with the unit I will send it your way.

Cool... I can definitely send the unit back after development is completed... I just don't want to be responsible for screwing up a device that I "borrowed" from somebody...

Awesome! I might be able to pass along some info that a person who will remain nameless sent my way.

Also - check out the Sirius Direct units - I think that would be optimal for what we're looking for. It's a no-bull solution - there's no screen or controller, just a raw sirius decoder and control unit. If we can figure out how to pass commands to it, we're golden.
