  • Questions about RR config

When I change the skin in RR all is fine.

Until I use the Config tool, which then defaults the skin back to what it is in the config file.

in other words what I am saying when you change the skin in RR it doesn't seem to update the config file with this information.

And yes I am expecting to get the smiley thrown at me coz I'm sure someone else has already asked this before but I couldn't find it mentioned whilst searching.

      interesting...

so you are saying that you have to setup your config, run RR, then choose your desired skin...if you desire to change the config settings, this whole process has to be repeated.

Strange, I'd think skin settings would have been supported. This one must have slipped through the cracks...What about if you set the skin from RR Config app?

RRconfig has names for day and night skins. If you'd change skin directly in RR, which of these two should be updated in the config?

This is not going to be changed because it is a "stupid-proof" design.. I had multpiple people telling me that they coudn't launch the software (saying invalid skin) when the setting was correct in RRConfig and the skin was valid. Basically people were trying out skins, deleting them and RR could not find the "last used" skin anymore (to resume to).. so now if you SAVE settings in RRConfig, it will reset to your DEFAULT skin as prevention. Also had users complaining that the skin they chose in RRConfig wasn't being used... This was actually implemented at user requests.

I apologise if you consider this being picky, however this is just my opinion.

Having a default skin that works is great and I can see the sense in that.

Therefore can RR not be set up so that if the skin in the config file is not available it resorts to the default automatically. Create an extra line in the config file called "default skin (do not delete on pain of death) ="

If the skin is changed during use then this should update the config.ini file not a seperate one. So if someone does change it in the config file, this is the one that will used.

Well, if you change the skin during the day then it changes the day one, if you change it at night, then it changes the night skin. doh!

The reason this is a big pain, is coz everytime there is an update, you run the config utility and then have to change your skin back to the one you want each time you run RR for the first time after this update.

I have said this NUMEROUS times: To update RR, you only have to overwrite RR.EXE and RRConfig.exe (mainly) -- You don't have to overwrite your settings (if you're doing that by any chance).

Now, if you're always changing the skin "back to the one you want each time you run RR for the first time" then it sounds to me that you should make THAT skin the DEFAULT one so you don't have to do it again. Also, if you run RRConfig WHILE RR IS RUNNING, it will keep your resume settings (skin/music position etc), but any changes made will only be effective at restart of RR..

I use the automatic updater which opens the config each time (not that I save it each time).

However I do make changes in the config to test things or as I am adding things. (started to edit the ini directly because of this problem)

It's not always the same skin, trying different ones out, plus customizing some so keep switching.

never mind, guess it's just me.
