  • There HAS to be something we can do about the search function

To me, Road runner is the best front end out there BY FAR. I switched from FP because of the flexibility RR has. The only real problem i have with the program is the search function, and i know i'm not the only one. I dont use playlists.. my songs are organized by genre/artist/album. All of my songs stay in the playlist. When i type the name of a song in teh search box and hit enter i NEVER get the song i'm looking for. For instance, this morning i put in "creature" looking for the 311 song creatures. It couldnt find ANY songs with that search. 311 has 2-3 songs with creature in the title. I got frustrated and gave up. Then randomly 30 mins later guess what song plays!?! There's gotta be a way we can search by artist, album, OR song titles. Right now i cant search by artist or album at all. Is there some winamp plugin or external program we can use to implement this kinda search?

Install the winamp library, open the options for the library, set yur music path(s) and tell it to scan the database. After that, when you open the audio browser in RR it will have entries to browse by Artist/Album/Genre.. You can even search through that..

Now regarding FILE SEARCHES: they'er FILENAME based, so basically if the text you're looking for is misspelled or inexistent it will not find any matches -- it will NOT look at the file's Tags.. The winamp library support above should work with any tags supported by winamp...

I have not had a single problem using the search feature once it was coded to search my entire database every time. If you are not a playlist guy, just use the file seach feature. If you have the word in the filename it will find it. I think the search works very very well.

I guess it's time to make a FAQ on this...

ok i have the library installed but i dont see any options for it. If you go thru the winamp preferences and hit configure under plugins it doesnt allow you to change anything. If i open the library (Alt L) and click library i can access library preferences but nowhere can i point winamp to music files.

Open winamp preferences, then under GENERAL PREFERENCES, there's an entry for 'Media Library' that's where you configure your library options (watch folders). The FAQ is in place now.

personal preference here guino, but if you have a winamp playlist, and press the . / del key on the numpad. It brings up a search box, where you can type and it searches letter by letter as you type.

Is there a chance of having a popup box like this put into roadrunner. i think this would need alot less concentration while driving along, without having to click too many buttons etc.

You can assingn ANY key to perform ANY command on ANY desired screen -- so you can make a shortcut for any key to bring up the playlist/file searches...

The same text you type to search in Winamp is what RR can use to find the same results.. the difference is Winamp can make searches a lot faster than VB6 so if I make it search for every letter you type, it will be considerably slow compared to winamp.

What about a "search next" function?

I noticed that if my playlist is scattered (not in ABC order)... if i search for something... it will only show the first match.... I can't get to the next one.
