  • Joypad RoadRunner Controller v1.0

    [UPDATED VERSION 1.1]

    Added Select Device
    Added Key repeat

    -----------------------

    This is a simple application I've wrote that makes use of the SDK. I made it because I am hacking up a gamepad and linking the buttons to my steering wheel control in the car. This is inspired by a similar application wrote by Stevie G.. but i'm using th SDK rather than the SendKey commands.

    Its simple to use.. just start it up, press a button on your joypad.. see what button it is, then edit the command to suit your needs :-)

    Attached is a pic and the software, not really tested it as yet. so any bugs please post

    cheers

    Nice, much pretty-er than what I wrote.

    But mine just does mouse movements and volume 30% mute on button 9

      I installed a wireless joypad in my steering wheel a few months ago and am loving it. I'll have to try out the software. Is there any way to pick up the analog pads to use them for input?

        @ CDR

        Nice - all I need to do now is finish my button pad! The armrest TV controls in 747s seem to be ideal....

            source code, yeah sure dont see why not. I will tidy it up alittle and stick it out. give me a couple of days I want to get my controller finished first (waiting on postman bringing it) then I can give it a test and tidy any bits tht need doing. The only thing that it doesnt do is the left-right up-down stick, but I figured since you have 10 buttons to play with anyway it wasnt needed. Give me a couple of days and I will upload it here for you

              Do one for FreeDrive! (or extend the SDK so it finally do not need mouse or touchscreen). Please...

                Hey CDR thanks, Iíll be waiting.
                One question though, Are the buttons on these joypads simple push buttons which short out the lines of the game port when pressed or do the have a circuit with which they use to communicate with the game port ?
                Iíd like to use this program to switch between screens when the car goes into reverse (back up camera screen) or when the driving lights are on (night skin) e.t.c.
                As it is it will not work because the commands will be continuously sent to RR. The program will require some modification to send the command only once for certain inputs . I hope you understand what Iím trying to do.

                Iíll be looking forward for the source code

                  Yeah its just two wire contact. I opened up a logic 3 gamepad and am gong to be using that. The way I have coded it, on the button push down it sends the command, but it would be very easy to add a up state.. so it can be used to toggle. You could use it to load a skin in the down state.. say MENU;REARCAM.SKIN then on the upstate EXIT or something like that, then no matter what s on RR at the time a skin would appear ontop of what you are using and show you the rear cam skin if you know what I mean.. will let you have it soon as I've had chance to play

                    I cant see any reason to make this frontend specific, if the commands are just sent to windows etc it can control anything.

                    Or possibly assign buttons in an ini file to send to certains apps via window title, IE

                    button1command=vol_up
                    button1target=roadrunner

                    button2command=exit
                    button2target=frodoplayer

                      Oops. I have one problem using this long awaited application. I don't have a game port on my Via Epia MB. Is there any way to adapt this app to work with the parallel port ?

                        Get a usb gamepad there cheap. Buy it now real cheap on ebay!

                        Or usb to gameport converter if you already have a gamepad with a gameport plug on it. These dont look so cheap.

                          Hi, the commands ARE coded for RoadRunner, only FreeDrive that I know uses the same base as its sdk. The reason I did this is that RR doesnt need focus as all and its still controllable with it.

                          Sorry should of mentioned this app is for USB joypads :-)

                            So All I need is a USB gamepad to hack up and Iím all set. No need to have a game port on my PC. Am I correct?

                              yep thats it.. just open up a controller, patch the wires to your steering wheel control and jobs done. :-) I hacked something like this.

                              It was the cheapest, small one I could find, got it from a computer fair for £3 ($5)
