  • File uploading and organizing in RR

Okay I searched with no luck.

Question? How does everyone get there mp3's, videos, etc. to there carpc once its installed? I know you can just open the windows explorer but wouldn't it make sense to have a skin with default commands to save files to the system. Like, save cd files to this location (configurable) with a button press. Or a RR command for skins called save(type,from_location,to_location). Then you can set the skin to grab files from the usb key and put them on the hard drive in the mp3 folder with the press of a single button. I'm not sure what else you would want in the command. maybe not just save but filecontrol with save being a type of control along with delete, move, copy, rename.

woke up last night thinking about this (i know im addicted) anyone like the idea, has it been done already or is it a stupid idea.

I have my own program which checks my server indoors and updates any changes I have made to the files in my 'designated playlists'

IE it's basically a synchronisation program.

I'm hoping to develop it to be TS friendly.

*edit also works with USB sticks.

      this is a great idea.

At the moment, I use either a crossover cable or LAN to move files as I have no disc drive.

Gobby is also developing something like this. I think it might be integrated into the forthcoming MC3.0 release but don't quote me on it.

Gobby, does this sound like what your doing? Or should someone add this command to RR?

i was also thinking of finding something like this, its kind of annoying to open explorer and do a cut and paste from my portable USB drive to my music\videos folders......it would be a greeat idea to have like a TS explorer built into a RR skin...

Can this be done now with the current version of RR??

does anyone know of a TS friendly version of explorer?

i was asking about this earlier, i think a file browser is on the RR todo list for sometime in the future.

as for auto copying files when you stick in the usb thumbdrive or what not there are some threads dealing with this here, and i think even a sync app.
you can also setup something all on your own using autorun and .bat files on the thumb drive. I think i may do this right now or in the near future.

true liquid_smoke, but let me first say that autorun doesn't necessarily work on all thumb drives. I don't remember exactly why, but I did some research on this topic before and found that out. I believe there were a couple of apps for sale that would do the same type of thing, but I didn't want another app, I just wanted to use autorun and a script or two. good luck, man. it might work with your drive.

I would like to see something integrated into RR. Some config settings for which folders and then the option to setup a button in a skin to start the sync with some skinnable status screens. I have no cd drive, instead I use my 802.11g to copy files from my server. Would be nice to have a folder sitting on the server I could put stuff into then get in my car and hit sync. Thanks for your work on this. I look forward to your software.

                    Check this thread. http://www.mp3car.com/vbulletin/show...+wireless+sync

But what i was looking for was more then just WiFi. What if your friend has a cd with mp3s or a memory stick or whatever. Its a pain to have to exit out of the front end to do file management. If you could build a skin that had the most common explorer functions such as copy paste cut move rename. then you could keep the front end theme the same.

Also what about carputer to carputer WiFi transfers? During the carputer meets someone should design an auto WiFi transfer system so that everyone could share files.

edit: damn that was quick check this thread out http://www.mp3car.com/vbulletin/show...088#post689088

Just did does it work with video files. Is it skinable into RR? What I really wanted was auto copy with a single button click from within RR. I havn't realy had a chance to create a playlist for my system yet. My music is directory based. group/cd/song and then i have some misc directories like comedy and xmas. I also have 200 gigs of mp3's on another drive that I need to go through and figure out what I need to move over to my carputer and like everyone has noticed WiFi is slow.

But more then playlists and music. What about dvd's and divx videos. I have over 300 divx movies that I would like to start dumping onto the system. I think a SKin based file explorer would be sweet, with an OSK built into it. As soon as I get some free time I might design one. Unless you want to add to your program. Either way im sure everyone would use it.

I use a program called foldermatch to sync my audio/video files.

I'm sure it can be embedded into RR, but I'm not sure how TS friendly it would be. My setup uses a laptop. So, I just pull the laptop from the car. Never had the need to use the touchscreen with it. If the directories you are comparing don't change, the "sync" button is pretty big and would be easy to press on a touchscreen.

Yes, works with all files, or you can set it to do only selected extensions.

Not yet, that's what I am looking to do for future versions.

It copies like for like, so it keeps all the folder structure etc.
