  • Music Sort order / Display

    In the RRconfig there's a section to define the ID3 tags for browse and playlist. But what determines the ORDER the songs are displayed in? Is that definable as well? I'd REALLY like an option to sort by artist or title while I'm in RR itself.

    Also is there somewhere that defines the effects of the various ID3 settings?

    this would be really nice, to add a way to sort the playlist, instead of having it appear 'random' or by directory order only

      Download Chuck's skin and take a look at his music player.

        Wow, Chuck's skin takes RR to the max! It'd be great if I had a 21" monitor in my car and someone to drive while I play with RR. I checked out the audio player and the only thing that even appeared to re-sort the list was a button labeled "ABC". When I clicked it, my list did change somehow but then my comupter was locked up and I couldn't explore further. I believe the command for the button was:
        B09,099,180,65,65,"ACTIVATE;Playlist Editor||SENDKEY;^+1||RELOADLIST",""
        I'm not exactly sure what the above does, but I don't see that it would toggle artist/album in the sort order.

        Basically I'd like to toggle the listing between: 1. Sort and display just the titles; 2. Sort and display Artist - Title. Is this possible???

          No, it's not possible.

          Winamp only allows you to sort by title or filename. But if you name your files as "artist - song.mp3" like most people do, you can sort by filename and get the same effect as sorting by artists.

            My filenames are all artist - title. If I can't have RR toggle the sort order, I'd like to have it show them all in just title order, then if I want a specific artist I can do a search to filter them out. No matter what I do though, my songs always appear in artist-title order in RR (even if I only display just the title). I went into Winamp and checked "When loading multiple files sort by name" but that didn't help either. How can I get the lists to just sort by title?

              Is it Winamp then that determines the sort order? My Winamp playlist has the following options in it:
              Code:
              Sort list by title
              Sort list by filename
              Sort list by path and filename
              Reverse list
              Randomize list
              Why can't RR invoke these commands for the selected playlist and put the songs in just title order?

                Check has the randomize feature in his skin.. it's only a matter of programming the keys.. the problem is that RR will reload the ID3 Tags afterwards (if used) since the playlist changed (fine for small playlists)... the best approach would be to implement those in RR itself.

                  You can only sort these ways that i know of

                  Buttons
                  "ACTIVATE;Playlist Editor||SENDKEY;^+1||RELOADLIST",""----------------sort by tital
                  "ACTIVATE;Playlist Editor||SENDKEY;^+2||RELOADLIST",""----------------sort by file name
                  "ACTIVATE;Playlist Editor||SENDKEY;^+3||RELOADLIST",""----------------sort by file path and name
                  "ACTIVATE;Playlist Editor||SENDKEY;^r||RELOADLIST",""----------------Reverse Playlist
                  "ACTIVATE;Playlist Editor||SENDKEY;^+r||RELOADLIST",""----------------Randomize Playlist

                  this one will do both sort by tilal then randomize - 3rd button down
                  ,"ACTIVATE;Playlist Editor||SENDKEY;^+r||RELOADLIST||SWITCHBUTTON;3>>A CTIVATE;Playlist Editor||SENDKEY;^+1||RELOADLIST||SWITCHBUTTON;3"," "
