  • Weather Cache

This got discussed a while back but it remain unsolved.

Is there a way to cache the weather data without opening the weather skin?

Basically, my car pc is connected to the network, and therefore the internet, every night when I park it on the drive. Currently the weather data does not refresh unless I open the weather skin whilst sat in my car. I often forget and a week or so later when I look at the weather info it's still the same data from a week ago, the last time I manually opened it.

I thought about having IE synchronise the weather site every night using offline favourites but I'm not sure of the address to cache.

    Anybody know?

It's rather complicated to set up. First you need an app that can detect Internet connection and fires up RELOADWEATHER (using RR's exec.exe) when detected.

However, last time I checked, RELOADWEATHER doesn't work outside of the weather skin.

No, you can't use IE to sync it the way you describe. It doesn't work that way.

I like the sound of that... although I think if the update of the cache was manual you'd get round most probs because your brain would know if you where on or off the net.

If done I suggest Guino set it up to look live or look local as an option as this could save on bandwidth as well if on GPRS.

        Just a thought

Codewise, there's nothing that prevents reloadweather from working outside of the weather screen.. it should work (all it does is update the weather xml file and reload it).
