  • crossover for roadrunner?

I was wondering if it is possible to have a software based crossover in roadrunner. I currently have a echo gina3g soundcard (5.75 vrms output) that is going directly into my tube amps with a balanced signal. I dont want to add any external/hadware based crossovers (passive nor active) to the system. Is this something doable in RR?

My setup will be a bi amp design. one amp for the door mid/bass, one amp for the highs, and then a third amp for the subs.

    Thanks in advance.

As far as I understand, there's no 100% software based crossover. Reason being that controlling separate audio outputs from the same source normally would require specific hardware (i.e. multiple audio cards) -- to allow for playback of different (filtered) streams of sound at the same time. While some sound cards have some hacked drivers to simulate multiple cards on its different outputs, I'd say your best bet is still to go with hardware (passive crossovers are very easy to install and very cheap too).

It is however, VERY easy to add a 100+ Band EQ for the whole setup (for all speakers though).

thanks quino for the prompt reply. I am begining to think that the passive route is my best option. I already sourced out suppliers for the components and the boards for some 3rd order x-overs (can't find a 4th order yet though) As far as the EQ. There is some interest in another thread about finding a software based 1/3 octive eq. If you're up to that task I know a few people that would be extreamely happy.

      thanks again for the post
